The Musl C library only supports Microblaze BE, not Microblaze LE, so
this commit adjusts the dependencies of the toolchain-buildroot
package to not allow the selection of Musl on Microblaze LE.

As reported by William Welch <bvwelch@gmail.com>, the Musl external
toolchain provided by the musl-cross project is only Microblaze
big-endian. In fact, Musl seems to only support the big endian variant
of the Microblaze architecture, with the microblaze-* tuple.
This commit makes sure the Musl pre-built external toolchain provided
by musl-cross can only be selected for a big-endian Microblaze
configuration.

In pkg-generic.mk, an entry would be added to each of the permissions,
devices and users tables, even if FOO_PERMISSIONS/DEVICES/USERS is empty. In
that last case, the entry would contain only the separator, which is
substituted to '\n' in fs/common.mk.
For configurations with many packages, this would render the build output a
bit odd, containing many \n instances (even though the end result in the
target would of course be the same).
This patch cleans up the build output by only adding to these tables when
the package actually specified contents for them.

When Python 3 is selected in Buildroot, the host/usr/bin/python
symlink of the host Python interpreter points to python3. Packages
that need to use the host Python 2 interpreter have to use python2.
In commit 40218a1652 ("nodejs: force
python interpreter"), Samuel made some changes to the nodejs package
to use python2. One part of the changes is to sed a .gyp file to
replace the string 'python' by the path to python2. However, this
operation is done *after* calling the configure script, so it has in
fact no effect. Putting this sed before calling the configure script
fixes the problem.
However, there is a better solution: the nodejs build system has a
mechanism of variables, and it already defines a python variable
according to the environment variable PYTHON being passed. So this
patch instead adds a new patch to nodejs to use this python variable.

Currently, it is possible that more than one provider of a virtual package
is selected in the menuconfig.
This leads to autobuild failures, and we do not protect the user from
making a mistake in the configuration. The failure is then hard to
troubleshoot in any case.
We can't use kconfig constructs to prevent this, since kconfig does not
tell how many options did a select on another option.
This change introduces a new variable a provider *must* define to include
all the virtual packages it is an implementation of. Then, when evaluating
the package's rules, we check that the provider is indeed the declared one
for each virtual package it claims to be an implementation of.
This works by taking advantage that when more than one provider is
selected, only one of them will 'win' in setting the _PROVIDES_FOO
option. Thus any provider just has to check it is indeed the declared
provider. If not, it means that one or more other provider is selected.
This gives the opportunity to the user to change its configuration, and
we can match the error message in the autobuilders to skip those failures
(we can skip them instead of reporting them, since they are obviously
configuration errors that should not happen in the first place.)
[Note: kudos to Arnout for suggesting this actual implementation. :-)]

For some reason, we were keeping gdb version 6.6a specially for
Blackfin. However, it turns out that support for Blackfin was merged
in gdb 7.4 (cross-gdb and gdbserver, not native gdb on the
target). Therefore, we can simply remove the support for version 6.6a
and use 7.5 as the default.
Both 7.4 and 7.5 were built tested, including cross-gdb and gdbserver.
The original reason to switch to 7.x is that 6.6a doesn't build for
Blackfin FLAT, and while it builds for Blackfin FDPIC, it only builds
libiberty.a and does not actually build a cross debugger.

There will soon be new options to the graph-depends script, which we
can only sanely pass via environment variables.
Currently, we use such an environment variable to pass the maximum depth
of the dependency graph; the name of that variable is explicit that it
contains just the depth.
However, there has been so far no release of Buildroot which would make
use of that variable, so no user should have come to rely on it.
Rename that variable so it is less specific, and more generic, so it can
be used to pass more options to graph-depends.

sane-backends currently doesn't build with the ADI external
toolchains, due to an internal compiler failure. However, using the
internal toolchain backend for Blackfin goes past this internal
compiler failure, but raises the problem that sane-backends uses
fork(). Sane-backends has a --enable-pthreads option that allows to
use threads instead of forking in some parts of sane, but there are
still some other areas of sane-backends that continue to use fork().
Since the probability of using sane-backends on a noMMU system is
fairly small, we'll just disable this package for now on such

The autobuilders are not able to build glibc on AArch64 since we moved
to the internal toolchain backend as the default for AArch64. The
reason is that the cross-ld segfaults while linking of the glibc

reproduce outside of the autobuilder CI loop itself: even on the same
machine, in the same chroot, the issue does not appear.
Today, Will Newton helped me analyze a bit further the problem. In the

See
http://autobuild.buildroot.org/?reason=glibc-2.18-svnr23787&arch=aarch64
for the autobuilder results.
So, the segfault always happens while accessing an address 2 bytes
after the beginning of a page: it looks like a buffer overflow, which
gets triggered because the object is placed towards the end of the
previous page, and crosses over the next, unallocated page.
Moreover, we looked at the 0x4caf80 address in an AArch64 cross-ld
built by Buildroot, and it turns out that it is part of the
iterative_hash() function. This nicely correlates with the patch that
Will Newton had pointed in
http://lists.busybox.net/pipermail/buildroot/2014-May/095881.html as a
fix for invalid memory accesses reported by Valgrind in the AArch64
cross-ld, specifically around the same area of 'ld'.
Therefore, even though we have not been able to reproduce the issue
outside of the autobuilders, and cannot confirm that the patch is
fixing the issue, I propose to integrate this binutils patch into
Buildroot. It is anyway an upstream binutils patch, which fixes a real
problem.

unzip extract a directory "openPOWERLINK-V1.08.4" and
Buildroot expect a directory "openpowerlink-V1.08.4"
It is easier to use git repository instead of zip archive and

U-Boot v2014.04 introduced significant changes in its build infrastrcture.
Among things related to buildroot are:
1. Special new target ("tools-only") was added for building host tools alone
2. Tools cross-building for target is no longer possible with substitution of
HOSTxx with TARGETxx because host binaries won't be built. Instead we just set
CROSS_COMPILE and CROSS_BUILD_TOOLS variables.
3. Most of make targets now require U-Boot to be configured before building.
So for building generic "fw_printenv" we now need to make "env" target config-
independent.
4. HOSTCPPFLAGS are not used anywhere, so dropping
"uboot-tools-02-hostcflags-override-fix.patch"
Also due to lincese boilerplate change in sources
"uboot-tools-01-drop-configh-from-tools.patch" required subtle changes.

Currently the check for EABI/EABIhf toolchains looks for the
Tag_ABI_VFP_args attribute in the crt1.o file which gcc adds in an
EABIhf toolchain.
In uClibc, however, crt1.o is not compiled from c but assembly, so the
Tag_ABI_VFP_args attribute is not added in the object file. This causes
the EABIhf check in the external toolchain logic to fail for
uClibc-based toolchains.
Fix by compiling a dummy .c file and trying to link the object against the
C library. Since it is impossible to mix EABI and EABIhf code, a mismatch
between the buildroot and toolchain ABI settings will be detected during
this link step.

During the CMake bootstrap phase, the {C,LD}FLAGS set in the bootstrap
environment are not forwarded/converted as CMake flags.
The CMake build contains a bootstrap phase building a minimal CMake
program using a standard Makfile, then reconfigures itself with this
minimal program.
On system with no ncurses installed, and because the prefix option
points to $(HOST_DIR)/usr, if host-cmake was built after host-ncurses,
then ncurses libraries and headers are correctly found (in the host
tree) during the second configuration (because of the prefix). However,
it fails at building ccmake (the curses interface) because the
CMAKE_C_FLAGS, CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS and CMAKE_EXE_LINKER_FLAGS do not
point to the host tree.
Because these flags are needed when running the bootstrap script,
this patch makes sure the same flags are set when running the second
configuration.

This commit slightly improves the external toolchain backend, and the
gdb build logic to create a file named
$(STAGING_DIR)/usr/share/buildroot/gdbinit which can be used as a
gdbinit file using gdb -x option. This allows gdb to automatically use
the proper sysroot to find libraries.
The initial insight for this patch comes from the report of Oded
Hanson <OHanson@xsightsys.com>, who found an issue with the Eclipse
Buildroot plugin, which was setting a solib-path in gdb, but not a
sysroot. Setting a solib-path was enough to find shared libraries, but
not the dynamic linker. And since Eclipse doesn't allow to set the
sysroot in any other way than giving a gdbinit file, it makes sense to
have Buildroot generate a gdbinit file (which can be used in other
situations than Eclipse).
To achieve this, this commit introduces a gen_gdbinit_file helper in
toolchain/helpers.mk, and uses it for the internal toolchain and
external toolchain backends.

This package provides BLAS and LAPACK libraries.
Though it is common to find implementation of these two libraries in
Fortran, this package provides a C-implementation for both, because:
- Fortran support has been deprecated in Buildroot since the 2013.11
release;
- most of the external toolchains do not provide a Fortran compiler.
Often BLAS build-systems build some test programs and run them to
generate some source files or adjust some build optimizations, naively
assuming they are building the library for the build-machine. This does
not play well when cross-compiling.
This implementation has this defect too, by building and running a tool
generating a header.
However, the build-system allows to pass an empty header.
So, we have to patch the CMake to build the generator (but never
install it) and correctly support building with and without this header
provided by the user.
Also, some CMake patches are needed to fix the build and install rules.

(QtNetwork, QtSql, QtTest and QtXml) are built in addition to QtCore,
so they are installed in the sysroot but they are not copied into the
target tree.
Among these modules that could be built but optionally installed, only
QtTest had no option to allow being installed in the target fs.
Thus, programs linking against QtTest would successfully build, but
would miserably fail at runtime due to this missing dependency.

This new version has a very, very weird build system. There are different
images that syslinux can now build:
- the plain legacy-bios images we already supported previously
- two new EFI32 and EFI64 applications
To build one or the other, the Makefile accepts one or more of:
make (bios|efi32|efi64)
Specify all of them, and it builds all. Specify 'install', and it installs
all of them, as one may expect.
Still a regular behaviour, is to build only a subset (down to one):
make bios <-- builds just the legacy-bios images
make efi32 bios <-- builds just the legacy-bios and efi32 images
Where it gets weird is the install procedure. Can you guess how it's done?
Hint: the syslinux guys have invented the multiple-argument parsing in
pure Makefiles. To build then install only the bios images, one would do:
make bios
make bios install
Yep, that's it. make bios install. Two arguments, one action.
That makes for some funky workarounds in our install procedure...
'bios' is the only image we support so far, with efi to come in a future
patch.

Since libwesockets in written in pure C, no C++, there is no reason to
disable it or make the configuration failed when the toolchain has no
C++ support.
Unfortunately, CMake defaults sets C and C++ as languages used by the
project. This makes the configuration failed if no C++ compiler is found.
This patch just make the CMake code of libwebsockets reflecting the real
status of the project with regard to the languages used.
Should fix:

The manual has this sentence for the dependency on a C library *and* a
toolchain feature:
foo needs an (e)glibc toolchain, or foo needs an (e)glibc toolchain
w/ C++ support
And then, just below, the comment text for C++ is just 'C++', not
'C++ support'.
Fix that, and add a bit of indentation too.

For asciidoc, a string like '+these are some words+' will be displayed in
monospace font. Such sequences are identified by searching for a matching
pair of + signs in the same block.
The string 'C++' also contains such + signs. In most cases, this does not
pose a problem and no escaping is necessary. However, if 'C++' occurs twice
in the same block, the + signs will be matched to each other, and asciidoc
formats all text between them as monospaced text. In this case, escaping of
one of these 'C++' occurances is necessary to get the right formatting.
In one place of the manual, there is a sentence that causes such a problem:
"you only have to tell whether your toolchain supports C++ or not and
whether it has built-in RPC support. If your external toolchain uses
the 'uClibc' library, then you have to tell Buildroot if it supports
largefile, IPv6, RPC, wide-char, locale, program invocation, threads
and C++."
Commit 082dec8ce4 was based on a patch fixing
this problem in one place of the manual, but was incorrectly changed while
committing.
This patch reverts the incorrect changes in that commit, and solves the
problem correctly.

Asciidoc supports two syntaxes for section titles: two-line titles (title
plus underline consisting of a particular symbol), and one-line titles
(title prefixed with a specific number of = signs).
The two-line title underlines are:
Level 0 (top level): ======================
Level 1: ----------------------
Level 2: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Level 3: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Level 4 (bottom level): ++++++++++++++++++++++
and the one-line title prefixes:
= Document Title (level 0) =
== Section title (level 1) ==
=== Section title (level 2) ===
==== Section title (level 3) ====
===== Section title (level 4) =====
The buildroot manual is currenly using the two-line titles, but this has
multiple disadvantages:
- asciidoc also uses some of the underline symbols for other purposes (like
preformatted code, example blocks, ...), which makes it difficult to do
mass replacements, such as a planned follow-up patch that needs to move
all sections one level down.
- it is difficult to remember which level a given underline symbol (=-~^+)
corresponds to, while counting = signs is easy.
This patch changes all two-level titles to one-level titles in the manual.
The bulk of the change was done with the following Python script, except for
the level 1 titles (-----) as these underlines are also used for literal
code blocks.
This patch only changes the titles, no other changes. In
adding-packages-directory.txt, I did add missing newlines between some
titles and their content.

Commit a5e92d92e7 converted uClibc to the
package infrastructure, but while doing so removed support for the
documented uclibc-update-config make target. This make target copies the
uclibc .config file back to the original (typically version-controlled)
configuration file.
As this was an unintentional removal, this patch re-adds the
uclibc-update-config target.

Currently, the gettextization of wget works by chance:
- host-gettext is added as a dependency to wget;
- gettextize is run as a post-patch hook.
But the dependencies are only guaranteed to be built and installed
for the configure step, not the patch step. Because post-patch hooks
are part of the patch step, we have no guarantee that the dependency
to host-gettext is done by the time we gettextize wget.
This happens to work by chance, since wget sorts alphabetically after
gettext, so we indeed have host-gettext built and installed by the
time we need to gettextize wget.
This is prone to fail in the parallel build case, since we can no
longer rely on alphabetical order in that case.
Instead, run gettextize in PRE_CONFIGURE_HOOKS to avoid the race.

This commit fixes two separate, but related build failures:

floating point is enabled, but not with the NEON FPU. In this case,
the NEON ARM assembly is rejected by the assembler, with messages

Until now, our UPPERCASE function was implemented purely in make for
performance reasons, but our LOWERCASE function was implemented by
calling "tr", which was reasonable due to the fact that LOWERCASE was
rarely used, but future changes might make a more heavy usage of the
LOWERCASE macro.
We want this LOWERCASE function to turn a "_" into a "-" and not a
".", so we slightly adjust the existing FROM and TO lists to make this
possible. This doesn't change the behavior of the UPPERCASE macro
because both "-" and "." are converted into "_" by this function.
This change takes advantage of suggestions made by Arnout
Vandecappelle, who said they further improve the performance of
UPPERCASE and LOWERCASE by 30%/40%.

The cross-compilation improvements integrated in Python rely on the
compiler exposing a line starting with LIBRARY_PATH when called with
-E -v. This is used by Python setup.py to find the installation
locations of libraries.
However, this LIBRARY_PATH line is not shown by very old compilers,
such as the gcc 4.2.x compiler used on the AVR32 architecture. This
causes libraries installed in the sysroot, such as libffi, to not be
detected by the setup.py script.
To fix this problem, this patch adds addtional logic to setup.py,
which consists in deriving the library paths from the sysroot
location, if no LIBRARY_PATH field was found.

The host variant of syslinux wasn't exposed anywhere, so the only way
to use it was to know that a "host-syslinux" target existed. Moreover,
thanks to commit 8e0d411898 ('syslinux:

are automatically installed to $(HOST_DIR) when building the target

Even though syslinux is built for the target, it does create helper

This change installs these helper programs to the host so that they may be
called by post image creation scripts.

The current check is broken, as it only checks if the user's login
shell is bash, not what the system shell is.
Mimick the sequence found in the top-level Makefile to search for
bash, except for the fallback case, where we explicitly check that
'sh' is bash, by checking if it sets $BASH, so we know the fallback
case, in the top-level Makefile, to use 'sh' will indeed use bash.
Remove superfluous semi-colons ';' at the end of lines, they are
not needed in a shell script (this is not C!)

Currently, we only pass --enable-opengl is at least one DRI driver is
enabled, since full OpenGL is only possible with a DRI driver (and the
X.Org stack). Otherwise, we pass --disable-opengl on the assumption that
OpenGL is not possible.
But mesa3d's ./configure is a bit weird: enabling OpenGL-ES and diabling
full OpenGL is an error (see autobuild failure below).
It turns out that, if there is no DRI driver enabled, but --enable-opengl
is passed, ./configure will behave properly wrt OpenGL-ES, and will not
build the full OpenGL libgl.
Thanks to Paul for explaining this.

In 4268d39, a patch was added to update libtool.m4 for MIPS n64 targets.
However, this caused the configure script to be regenerated during the
build steps, which in turn caused build failures on Fedora 12 hosts. In
ed73d1d, this was fixed by patching the installed libtool.m4 file
instead of the source file.
However, ed73d1d did not take into account that the target libtool will
also install libtool.m4 to staging, and that that version has
precedence over the one in HOST_DIR.
Therefore, this patch takes a different approach: the source file is
patched in the usual way, and instead the reconfigure is avoided by
touching the generated files.
On the target, we also cannot use the AUTORECONF mechanism because of
some mysterious Makefile.inc file. So just use the same approach and
wait for upstream to make a new release.

Since DRI driver depend on X.Org being selected, this means that we

Currently, full-OpenGL is enabled by checking that at least one driver
is enabled. This is done by checking that the just-constructed lists of
drivers are not empty.
But we already have a variable that is set to 'y' as soon as a driver
is selected:
- DRI drivers select BR2_PACKAGE_MESA3D_DRI_DRIVER
- Gallium drivers select BR2_PACKAGE_MESA3D_GALLIUM_DRIVER
- both BR2_PACKAGE_MESA3D_DRI_DRIVER and BR2_PACKAGE_MESA3D_GALLIUM_DRIVER
select BR2_PACKAGE_MESA3D_DRIVER
So, BR2_PACKAGE_MESA3D_DRIVER is set to 'y' as soon as at least one

Buildroot currently ships a very minimal build configuration file for exim,
which disables most optional features. This is not coherent with the runtime
configuration file, taken verbatim from the exim distribution, which enables
some of these features.
The visible symptom is an error during boot that prevents exim from starting:
Exim configuration error in line 541 of /etc/exim/configure:
router dnslookup: cannot find router driver "dnslookup"
In order to fix this problem, we change the way exim is configured at build
time. Instead of blindly copying a minimal Buildroot-provided configuration
file, we now copy the exim-provided one and then tweak it to change the needed
options. This actually makes the configuration closer to standard exim.
As the amount of tweaking is remarkable, we also define a few macros to make
it easier and more readable.
This new approach was suggested by Bernd Kuhls.

Buildroot conventions:
* Variables are named in upper-case, prefixed by the name of the

* No re-use of one _CMDS definition in another, and instead usage of
a RSH_REDONE_MAKE_FLAGS variable to pass identical flags betwen
build and install steps.

Pyrex is a language that allows you to mix python and C code in a

Old toolchains, with old gcc that do not support -print-sysroot, break the
kernel-headers version check script: it fails to find the sysroot of the
toolchain, and thus ends up including the host's linux/version.h.
Most of the time, this will break early, since the host's kernel headers
will not match the toolchain settings.
But it can happen that the check is succesful, although the configuration
of the toolchain is wrong:
- the custom toolchain has kernel headers vX.Y
- the user selected vX.Z (Z!=Y)
- the host has headers vX.Y
In this case, the check passes OK, but the build of some packages later on
will break (which is exactly what those _AT_LEAST_XXX options were added to
avoid).
Fix that by passing the sysroot to the check script, instead of the cross
compiler.
We get the sysroot as thus:
- for custom toolchains, we use the macro toolchain_find_sysroot. We can
do that, because we already have a complete sysroot with libc.a at that
time.
- for internal toolchain using a custom kernel headers version, we just
use $(STAGING_DIR). We can't use the macro as for custom toolchains
above, because at the time we install the kernel headers, we do not yet
have a complete sysroot with a libc.a. But we can just use
$(STAGING_DIR), since we're only interested in the kernel headers.
For all other types of toolchains, we already have the _AT_LEAST_XXX options
properly set, so we need not add a check in this case.

mkostemp() is missing with older version of uClibc (uClibc <= 0.9.33).
So, we need to check if mkostemp() is available.
If not, we use a wrapper function based on mkstemp() to implement it.
Since util-linux v2.23, mkostemp() is called with O_CLOEXEC flag.
If we use a define to mkstemp() to implement mkostemp(), flags will be
discared.
mkstemp() will pass O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, but not O_CLOEXEC, which
means that the file descriptor will no longer be closed automatically
upon exec().
To avoid to discard the flags, we add a call to fcntl() to set O_CLOEXEC
flag just after mkstemp().

Since we introduced the _AT_LEAST_XXX for the kernel headers, people
using pre-built custom toolchain now have to specify the version of
the kernel headers their custom toolchain uses.
So, when we detect that there is a mismatch between the selection in
the menuconfig, and the actual version of the headers, we currently
only bail out with a terse message "Incorrect selection of kernel
headers".
This could be confusing some, and getting the version of the headers
used by the toolchain is not trivial (well, it's very easy, but not
trivial.)
This patch changes the way we report the error by moving the message
into the test-code, and by printing the expected and actual versions
of the kernel headers.
BUT! To get this pretty error message, we need to run the
test-program, so we can not use the cross-toolchain, we have to use
the native one.
BUT! The native one has its own linux/version.h header, so we can not
simply include it.
So, we ask the cross-compiler where its default sysroot is, and use
that to then force-feed the cross linux/version.h to the native
toolchain.

Some packages need a host-python interpreter with a version different
from the one installed in the target to run some build scripts (eg.
scons requires python2 to run, to build any kind of packages even if
the python interpreter selected for the target is python3).
In such cases, we need to add the right host-python dependency to the
package using the host-python-package infrastructure, and we also want
to invoke the right host python interpreter during the build steps.
This patch adds a *_NEEDS_HOST_PYTHON variable that can be set either
to 'python2' or 'python3'. This variable can be set by any package
using the host-python-package infrastructure to force the python
interpreter for the build. This variable also takes care of setting
the right host-python dependency.
This *_NEEDS_HOST_PYTHON variable only affects packages using the

eudev uses GCC pragma diagnostics [1] for some of its logging functions,
to circumvent -Wformat-nonliteral. This feature is only available in GCC
>= 4.6.
The external toolchains for some architectures (PowerPC, SuperH) are based on
GCC 4.5. So eudev will not compile when using them.
systemd also uses the pragma diagnostics, but its dependency on Linux
headers >= 3.8 for the toolchain indirectly forces recent versions of

In this new revision, there is no longer transponders data, so dvb-apps
now only installs the dvb-apps utilities.
Packages that needs the transponders data have now all been switched to
use dtv-scan-tables instead, so we don't need a legacy option for the
transponders data.
However, we add a legacy option for the utilities option, just to inform
the user of the new behaviour.
Sadly, a user that had dvb-apps selected just to get the transponders
data will now get the full dvb-apps package installed. There's nothing
we can really do about this.

The dvb-apps package used to carry pre-scanned transponders data. These
transponders data have now been moved out of dvb-apps, and into their
own repository.
So, until we bump the dvb-apps package (to come in a follow-up patch),
dtv-scan-tables is exclusive to dvb-apps.
To be noted: the licensing information for those data is dubious. The
package carries the COPYING and COPYING.LIB files, hinting that the data
is covered by the GPLv2 *and* the LGPLv2.1. This is incoherent, and
dubious:
- since GPLv2 is a superset of LGPLv2.1, the actual license would be
just plan GPLv2;
- the transponders data is just a collection of 'facts': the
frequencies of each transponder; as such, it is usally not considered
to be a 'work' as per traditional copyright, and thus should be in
the public domain [cue the zoneinfo DB not so long ago].
But since this is a difficult question, we'll leave to the user to sort
these things out.

When Lua package is selected, libubox sets an option to build with Lua
binding. Unfortunately, if LUAPATH is not passed libubox seeks it on
the host instead of staging due to hard coded pkg-config commands in
its CMake file. As a result Lua is not found and the build fails.
Fix it by passing LUAPATH in LIBUBOX_CONF_OPT.
Similarly, libubox seeks LUA_CFLAGS with the host's pkg-config for the
same reason. To prevent potential errors, fix it by passing LUA_CFLAGS
in LIBUBOX_CONF_OPT.
Finally, libubox fails to build with Lua 5.2 because it uses functions
removed from this version.
Fix it by activating the option only with Lua 5.1.

XBMC is an award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media
player and entertainment hub for digital media.
We do provide a sub-option for each major feature we support, to avoid
letting the user hunt-down required libraries, since the dependency is
not always obvious and straightforward.
We also provide our own wrapper script, because the ones bundled in
XBMC are not suitable to all platforms. We need such a wrapper script
because XBMC exits with different exit codes, depending on how the user
quit XBMC: 0 is normal exit, 64 is for halt, and 66 is for reboot. So
we can't simply call the real XBMC binary from the startup script, or
we would lose this information. So, we provide a wrapper script that
takes appropriate action according to the above exit codes.
When run as root from a startup script, there is no HOME set, so XBMC
defaults to saving its configuration in /.xbmc (yes, at the root of the
rootfs). Since this does not play well with read-only filesystems (and
is inherently ugly anyway), and sicne there is no real clean way to tell
XBMC where to store its configuration, just provide a symlink to a better
place: /.xbmc -> /var/xbmc (note: the only location _guaranteed_ to be
writable is /tmp, but we want the configuration to survive a reboot. So,
/var/xbmc looks a better place than /var/run/xbmc. and the user will
have to take action to ensure /var/xbmc be writable.) (note: for this
reason, we do not want to set $HOME to /root either, even if it is root
running XBMC.)
Some of XBMC sub-options select libraries that depend on toolchain options,
such as IPv6. But those are already covered, being also implicit
dependencies of XBMC, as XBMC can only be used on an (e)glibc toolchain
anyway. When^WIf XBMC is one day buildable under uClibc/musl, this will be
time to revisit those dependencies.

beecrypt used to pull in icu automatically when C++ support was enabled,
but since icu is pretty large and slow, that automatic dependency was
removed. However, it is not obvious to the user that he should enable
icu in order to get C++ support in beecrypt. Therefore, make the C++
support a user visible config option and mention icu in the help text.
It would also be possible to automatically enable C++ support if icu
happens to be selected for another reason, but that doesn't really seem
to offer an advantage.

the panel, form and menu libraries. This means we duplicate the install

Rather than defining a set of macros, this change introduces a variable

When configure.ac scripts do AC_CHECK_FILE tests, they always fail in
cross-compilation contexts because it is not possible to check for
file existence during the build process. Therefore we have to preseed
the configure environment with ac_cv_file_<foo>=yes variable, <foo>
being the path of the file, where all slashes, dots or dashes have
been replaced by underscores.
In the context of the boot-wrapper-aarch64, we will have to use three
of these variables, with fairly complex paths. So instead of
replicating the logic each time, we create a
AUTOCONF_AC_CHECK_FILE_VAL macro to help defining such variables.

Notable changes in 210:
- dropped dependency on libdbus in favor of internal sd-bus library.
- experimental support for kdbus.
- introduction of systemd-networkd, a simple network configuration manager.
- merge of libsystemd-*.so libraries into libsystemd.so.
- changes in Gudev API.

- new configuration menu entry to enable systemd-networkd, which is an
alternative to ISC dhcp and dhcpcd.
- remove EFI patch for version 208.
- update of the getty unit patch.
- new patch to remove the *.service files accidentally shipped in the

Fixes CVE-2014-0021: Amplification in chrony control protocol
In the chrony control protocol some replies are significantly larger than
their requests, which allows an attacker to use it in an amplification
attack. With hosts allowed by cmdallow (only localhost by default) the
maximum amplification factor is 9.2. Hosts that are not allowed receive a
small reply with error status, which allows amplification of up to 1.5.
To fix the problem, the protocol has been modified to require padding in the
request packet, so replies are never larger than their requests. Also,
chronyd no longer sends replies with error status to hosts that are not
allowed by cmdallow.

Since commit 2a5cf5e (check kernel headers version), we also need to
specify the series of the custom kernel headers version.
The defconfigs file that define such a custom kernel headers version
now fail to build.
Add the required _AT_LEAST_X_Y options to those config files. Done with
this (convoluted but very fast, uch faster ythan manual editing!) rule:
for f in $( git grep -l BR2_DEFAULT_KERNEL_VERSION=\"3 ); do
grep -E '^BR2_PACKAGE_HOST_LINUX_HEADERS_CUSTOM_' "${f}" >/dev/null && continue
sed -r -e '/^(BR2_DEFAULT_KERNEL_VERSION="3\.([[:digit:]]+).*")$/s//\1\nBR2_PACKAGE_HOST_LINUX_HEADERS_CUSTOM_3_\2=y/' "${f}"
done
Only kernels >= 3.0 need those options in the defconfig, since the
default for 2.6.x kernels is correct (selects _AT_LEAST_2_6), and
the default is not saved in a defconfig.

However, the legacy module, in addition to headers from some of the
previously listed modules, also includes headers from the ml module.
Thus, the ml module must be selected to be able to build the legacy
one, so the gst-plugins-bad's opencv plugin.

During installation, host-python and host-python3 run the freshly built
python executable. This is done with a proper LD_LIBRARY_PATH to make
sure it picks up the libpython in the build directory. However, the
python binary has an RPATH pointing to the $(HOST_DIR)/usr/lib.
Therefore, if libpython exists there, it will be used instead.
If the install step is run in parallel, it is possible that libpython
is already partially copied to $(HOST_DIR)/usr/lib when python is run.
This gives an error like:
python: error while loading shared libraries: $(HOST_DIR)/usr/lib/libpython3.4m.so.1.0: file too short
The fix is simple: use RUNPATH instead of RPATH, which allows
LD_LIBRARY_PATH to override RUNPATH. That way, the libpython in the
build directory is always used. RUNPATH is enabled by passing
--enable-new-dtags to the linker.

The CS PPC 2011.3 and 2010.9 toolchains have a bad linux/socket.h header
that doesn't define sa_family_t which is used by linux/netlink.h (and

to be the only CS toolchains affected.
It's definitely NOT a kernel header version issue, the toolchain is
based on 2.6.38 headers and vanilla 2.6.38 has the proper definitions in
place. Fixes:

There is no reason to always depend on host-lzop, even when the kernel
compression is not LZO.
Since LZO is not the default compression option in the kernel (and there
is not sign that will change in the foreseeable future), it will always
appear in a config file, whether it is a complete config file or it is
only a defconfig.
So, only depend on host-lzop if the LZO compression is enabled in the
kernel config file (either the defconfig or the custom config file).
This includes:
- kernel compression itself
- initrd compression
- initramfs compression

Add a new function that returns the unmangled value of an option.

- the .config file to get it from

Samba 4.1.x uses the waf build system which isn't very cross-compile
friendly, and also some tests are formulated in a way that isn't
cross-build friendly either by needing to run them.
For this reason the samba4 build system includes a way to define
answers for many of the tests, but this support isn't complete
and some tests still want to be executed.
Samba 4.1.x also requires a proper answers file for each architecture,
and at the moment i've only tested for ARM and PowerPC so only those
architectures are supported to begin with. To add support for another
architecture basically copy one of the cache files to the proper name,
enable it in Config.in and adjust endianess and all of the "size of"
answers. I'm in the process of automating the sizeof and endianess
answers within the samba build system to make them cross friendly
to simplify the answers file to just one generic linux variant.

All packages using the luarocks infrastructure need a dependency on
luainterpreter, because having the Lua interpreter for the target is
needed to built native Lua modules. This dependency is already taken
care of in pkg-luarocks.mk.
However, host-luarocks, which is built as a dependency of the extract
step of any luarocks package, also had a dependency on
luainterpreter. Not only this was not necessary, but it was causing
problems with 'make legal-info'. Since 'make legal-info' triggers the
extraction of all packages, as soon as a luarocks package was enabled,
it would trigger the build of host-luarocks, itself triggering the
build of luainterpreter and therefore its dependencies, amongst which
the entire cross-compilation toolchain.

Ensure the kernel headers version used in the custom external toolchain,
or the manually-specified kernel headers version, matches exactly the one
selected by the user.
We do not care about the patch-level, since headers are not supposed to
change between patchlevels. This applies only to kernels >= 3.0, but
those are actually the ones we do care about; we treat all 2.6.x kernels
as being a single version, since we do not support any 2.6 kernels for
packages with kernel-dependant features.

VLC defines two autoconf functions which are also defined by our own
pkg.m4 from pkgconf. Unfortunately, they are defined in a different way:
VLC adds --enable- options, but pkg.m4 adds --with- options. To make
sure we use VLC's definition, rename these two functions from
PKG_WITH_MODULES to VLC_PKG_WITH_MODULES and from PKG_HAVE_WITH_MODULES
to VLC_PKG_HAVE_WITH_MODULES.
Note that the second function (PKG_HAVE_WITH_MODULES) is in fact
defined in exactly the same way by VLC and pkgconf, but this might no
longer be the case when either pkgconf or VLC is updated. Therefore,
that one is renamed as well.

A confusion was made when applying commit
c3d539b53f ('host python/python3:
conditionally disable unicodedata') and then commit
73293e88c8 ('python, python3: enable
unicodedata for host-python, needed by setuptools').
The first commit added the enabling of unicodedata in the host Python
when the target Python is configured with unicodedata, which is
necessary because building the target unicodedata Python module
requires having unicodedata support in the host Python.
The second commit enabled the unicodedata unconditionally in the host
Python, because it is needed by host-setuptools.
However, when the second commit was applied, the logic that consisted
in disabling unicodedate in the host Python when not needed was kept,
which resulted in breaking the build of host-setuptools due to the
lack of unicodedata support in the host python.
This commit fixes that by only leaving the unconditional
--enable-unicodedata in the host Python configuration options, and
therefore removing the problematic conditional --disable-unicodedata.

The parallel build patch series has significantly reworked how some of
the core dependencies are expressed. We now have the following
dependencies:
all: world
world: target-post-image
target-post-image: $(TARGETS_ROOTFS)
with TARGETS_ROOTFS containing the list of root filesystem image
targets, each having the following dependencies:
$$(BINARIES_DIR)/rootfs.$(1): target-finalize $$(ROOTFS_$(2)_DEPENDENCIES)
The bottom line is that the "target-finalize" target, which in turns
ensures that all packages are built, is only triggered if at least one
filesystem image is enabled.
As we want to support builds with no filesystem image selected, this
is not acceptable. As a fix, we change the target-post-image target
to:
target-post-image: $(TARGETS_ROOTFS) target-finalize
This way, target-finalize will be triggered even if TARGETS_ROOTFS is
empty. This is still correct for parallel build, as the individual
root filesystem image targets still depend on target-finalize.

The configure script, first tries to call libusb-config to determine the

this program does not exist, so the cflags/libs variables are empty.
Therefore, add a patch to explicitly add PTHREAD_CFLAGS and PTHREAD_LIBS to

The host-libxml2 package does not depend on zlib or lzma, but may
detect versions available on the host. This can cause problems in the
following situation:
1 host-libxml2 is built, finds an available lzma library in the
system, enables lzma support by using it.
2 host-xz is built, which installs a different version of the lzma
library into $(HOST_DIR)
3 host-libxslt is built, tries to link against libxml2, which fails
because now the visible lzma library is the one from
$(HOST_DIR)/usr/lib and no longer the one libxml2 was built agains.
To fix this, this patch passes --without-zlib and --without-lzma to
the host package.
In addition, since the target variant of libxml2 does not have
provisions to depend on the target lzma, we also pass --without-lzma
for the target variant. The case of zlib for the target was already
properly taken into account.

To install its shared library, the luajit Makefile does:
cd src && test -f $(FILE_SO) && \
$(INSTALL_X) $(FILE_SO) $(INSTALL_DYN) && \
$(LDCONFIG) $(INSTALL_LIB) && \
$(SYMLINK) $(INSTALL_SONAME) $(INSTALL_SHORT1) && \
$(SYMLINK) $(INSTALL_SONAME) $(INSTALL_SHORT2) || :
This means that if ldconfig doesn't work or isn't available on the
system, it won't create the libluajit-5.1.so -> libluajit-5.1.so.5.2.0
symbolic link.
Not having this symbolic link prevents lua-ev from finding the shared
version of the luajit library, and it fallbacks to using the
libluajit.a static library. However, this static library is not built
with -fPIC, so using it within a shared library doesn't work, and
leads to build failures on architectures that really do want to have
non-fPIC code into a shared library, such as x86-64.
By passing LDCONFIG=true during the installation steps of luajit, we
ensure that the symbolic links are created, which allows lua-ev to
detect the shared library properly, making everybody happy.

$(TOPDIR)/local.mk
This works well for in-tree builds, but is not very useful for

Also, it seems to be more sensible to have local.mk alognside
the .config file.
Hence, change the default for BR2_PACKAGE_OVERRIDE_FILE to point to:

XBMC needs Java on the host in order to build, because it uses a
code-generator which is built in two phases: In the first phase SWIG is used
to parse C++ header files that define the API. SWIG outputs an XML file
that contains a complete description of the structure of the API. In the
second phase, the XML file is ingested by a Groovy (Java) program that then
creates C++ code that forms the bridge to the scripting language (Python).
The second phase is why we need java on the host.

Until now, Python external modules were only visible when Python 2.x
was selected. With this commit, we now source all the Config.in files
of Python external modules, as soon as one of the two Python
interpreters is enabled.
Since all Python external modules have a "depends on
BR2_PACKAGE_PYTHON" in their Config.in, this commit in practice does
not allow to enable any Python external module. However, thanks to
this, we can progressively and safely enable more and more Python
external modules to build with Python 3, by simply changing their
dependency to "depends on BR2_PACKAGE_PYTHON || BR2_PACKAGE_PYTHON3".

This commit improves the Python package infrastructure to allow Python
packages to be built with Python 3. The changes are fairly simple:
* Use either PYTHON_PATH or PYTHON3_PATH as the PYTHONPATH depending
on which Python is used.
* Depend on host-python or host-python3 and python or python3
depending on which Python is used.

This commit bumps the Python3 package to use Python 3.4.0rc1.
About the patches:
* The patches below 100 are significantly changed, because like for
Python 2.x, a good number of improvements have been made in the
upstream Python for cross-compilation. Therefore, almost all of
these patches have been modified.
* All the patches above 100 are simply updated for Python 3.4.0, with
a small refactoring for the handling of test modules.
The details of the python3.mk changes are:
* --without-ensurepip to tell Python to not use PIP at build time.
* Many environment variables are no longer passed, they were specific
to our cross-compilation patches
* The fixup of the LIBDIR in the Python Makefile is no longer needed
since Python has switched to _sysconfigdata.py for distutils
configuration instead of parsing the Makefile.
* A new post patch hooks touches the two files generated by pgen to
make sure they are newer than the pgen sources, which ensures pgen
is not built/executed.

versions. Instead, use the existing PYTHON3_VERSION_MAJOR.

The target python3 depends on host-python3, but most of the scripts
call "python", so we need to ensure that $(HOST_DIR)/usr/bin/python
exists. This patch achieves this by creating a python -> python3
symbolic link in $(HOST_DIR), just like we are already doing for the
target Python 3.

Thanks to the previous commit that makes distutilscross unecessary for

removed. There is no need for any Config.in.legacy handling, since

host-distutilscross.

Thanks to the bump of Python 2.x, distutilscross is no longer needed
to achieve cross-compilation for setuptools packages. The host Python
2.x interpreter can be tricked into using the target compiler thanks
to pointing it to a different sysconfigdata module, which is achieved
using PYTHON_PATH.

The main Buildroot Makefile was removing *.py or *.pyc if Python 2 was
enabled, but for Python 3, this action was taken care of by a post
install target hook of python3.mk, which means it wouldn't work with
external modules (the .py/.pyc removal would be done before external
Python modules are installed).
We fix this by making the global *.py/*.pyc removal in the main
Makefile work for both Python 2 and Python 3.

Even though jumping from 2.7.3 to 2.7.6 looks like a minor version
bump, it is in fact a fairly significant one, because a good number of
changes to help cross-compilation have been merged into Python
upstream. Therefore, most of our patches are affected by this change.
In detail, this commit:
* Renames all the patches to follow the naming convention of patches
in Buildroot: the patch file names should not have any version
number.
* The patches numbered above 100, that add configuration options to
disable certain modules of the Python standard library, are only
renamed and slightly adapted, they didn't change that much.
* The patches numbered below 100 are almost entirely rewritten: many
of the cross-compilation problems that used to exist in Python
2.7.3 no longer exist, and the number of remaining problems is
smaller, and can be fixed with smaller patches.

With the upcoming bump of Python 2.x, it will become important that
the PYTHONPATH is passed whenever we build third-party packages, be
they using the distutils build mechanism, or the setuptools build
mechanism. This is because passing PYTHONPATH is what will allow
Python to find a special Python module that contains all the
compiler/library/headers definitions that are relevant when
cross-compiling.

Add '+' prefix to the $($(PKG)_BUILD_CMDS) and $($(PKG)_INSTALL*_CMDS)
commands to enable jobserver for the sub-make.
Without the '+' prefix GNU make does not detect the sub-make so it
disable the jobserver for the sub-make.
>From GNU make documentation:
Using the MAKE variable has the same effect as using a ‘+’ character
at the beginning of the recipe line. This special feature is only
enabled if the MAKE variable appears directly in the recipe: it does
not apply if the MAKE variable is referenced through expansion of
another variable. In the latter case you must use the ‘+’ token to get
these special effects.

To be able to use top-level parallel make we must not depend in a rule
on the order of evaluation of the prerequisites, so instead of relyng on
the left to right ordering of evaluation of the prerequisites add an
explicit rule to describe the dependencies.

To be able to use top-level parallel make we must not depend in a rule
on the order of evaluation of the prerequisites, so instead of relying
on the left to right ordering of evaluation of the prerequisites add
an explicit rule to describe the dependencies.
We cannot use the pattern rules because they must have the same
dependency for every package, but we need to change the dependencies
depending on $(2)_OVERRIDE_SRCDIR variable value, so we must use a
more flexible way like $(2)_TARGET_% variables.
So add explicit dependencies for the following stamp files:
$(2)_TARGET_EXTRACT
$(2)_TARGET_PATCH
$(2)_TARGET_CONFIGURE
$(2)_TARGET_BUILD
$(2)_TARGET_INSTALL_STAGING
$(2)_TARGET_INSTALL_TARGET

This commit makes the dependency from the target toolchain explicit.
This way we can buid from command line a package that use
inner-generic-package right after the configuration phase, example:
make clean <package-name>
Also remove TARGETS_ALL because the only purpose was to add toolchain
dependency so it's superseded by this commit.
To prevent circular dependency add the new variable
<pkgname>_ADD_TOOLCHAIN_DEPENDENCY to avoid adding the toolchain
dependency for toolchain packages.
This is also a step forward supporting top-level parallel make.

glibc 2.19 has been released recently
(https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-02/msg00224.html). This
commit allows to build a toolchain with this new version. In order to

selection choice is not displayed.

This patch bumps systemd to v207 but also declares it as a provider for the
udev virtual package.
Starting with systemd 183, udev has been merged into
systemd. The udev daemon is now installed as /lib/systemd/systemd-udevd.
This means that /dev management using udev is only available if systemd
is chosen as init system.
When configuring systemd, the following options are available:
- activation of systemd-journal-gatewayd, to access the journal via
HTTP.
- activation of extra features like journal compression and sealing.
Support for uClibc has also been removed because:
- upstream has no interest in supporting uClibc.
- using a shrinked libc brings no advantage, given the size of all the
programs included in Systemd. So using glibc does not matter.

BR2_PACKAGE_HAS_UDEV.

eudev is a userspace device management daemon. It is a standalone
version, independent from systemd. It is a fork maintained by Gentoo.
Features:
- No extra configuration options are available: Gudev is build if
libglib2 is selected.
- No dependency on hwdata as the package uses its own hardware
database (as does systemd).
