VLC cannot build static and shared libraries at the same time.
Also, live555 only has a static library, and VLC tries to link this into
a shared library. Therefore, disable the live555 plugin unless static
linking is selected. It would be better to build live555 as a shared
library, but that's for another patch.

Fix a large number of incorrect configure options for vlc.
Configure warnings reported by Arnout Vandecappelle, in his analysis of vlc
autobuild failures.
Notice that this change of configure options is caused by our AUTORECONF
picking up a different PKG_WITH_MODULES definition. If vlc is bumped in the
future and AUTORECONF is turned off, then this needs to be reverted.

When libusb support is requested in pcsc-lite, the configure script will try
to link a test application to check libusb_init(). However, when libusb
needs threads, the linking step should link in threads as well.
The configure script, first tries to call libusb-config to determine the
necessary cflags and libraries (which should include the thread flags), but
this program does not exist, so the cflags/libs variables are empty.
Therefore, add a patch to explicitly add PTHREAD_CFLAGS and PTHREAD_LIBS to
the libusb test, so libusb is detected correctly.

(external) nios2 toolchain is currently missing the fallocate64 system
call. Because of compiling the e2fsprogs package with _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64,
_LARGEFILE_SOURCE and _LARGEFILE64_SOURCE the fallocate call is replaced
by fallocate64 by the glibc. Therefore fallocate is entirely disabled while
configuring the package.

e4defrag has to be disabled because of the (external) toolchain declares
the fallocate64 call in the header files but don't implement it in the
library. e4defrag defines its own fallocate64 function that throws an
error because of the previous declaration in the toolchain header.

gcc build scripts use wrong variable name to specify xtensa overlay
application command. As a result gcc is built with the default overlay,
which leads to obscure failures later in the build process.
xtensa toolchain needs an additional configuration for a specific core
variant we're building for. This configuration is called 'overlay' and
is an archive with files for binutils, gcc and gdb that replace
corresponding files in toolchain components.

The host-libxml2 package does not depend on zlib or lzma, but may
detect versions available on the host. This can cause problems in the
following situation:
1 host-libxml2 is built, finds an available lzma library in the
system, enables lzma support by using it.
2 host-xz is built, which installs a different version of the lzma
library into $(HOST_DIR)
3 host-libxslt is built, tries to link against libxml2, which fails
because now the visible lzma library is the one from
$(HOST_DIR)/usr/lib and no longer the one libxml2 was built agains.
To fix this, this patch passes --without-zlib and --without-lzma to
the host package.
In addition, since the target variant of libxml2 does not have
provisions to depend on the target lzma, we also pass --without-lzma
for the target variant. The case of zlib for the target was already
properly taken into account.

To install its shared library, the luajit Makefile does:

$(SYMLINK) $(INSTALL_SONAME) $(INSTALL_SHORT1) && \

This means that if ldconfig doesn't work or isn't available on the
system, it won't create the libluajit-5.1.so -> libluajit-5.1.so.5.2.0
symbolic link.
Not having this symbolic link prevents lua-ev from finding the shared
version of the luajit library, and it fallbacks to using the
libluajit.a static library. However, this static library is not built
with -fPIC, so using it within a shared library doesn't work, and
leads to build failures on architectures that really do want to have
non-fPIC code into a shared library, such as x86-64.
By passing LDCONFIG=true during the installation steps of luajit, we
ensure that the symbolic links are created, which allows lua-ev to
detect the shared library properly, making everybody happy.

We've seen autobuilder failures for vlc on many platforms and we don't
know how to solve them. It is also currently orphaned, i.e. there is
nobody who is actively using the package and maintaining it in
buildroot.
We could mark the package as BROKEN, but that would make it completely
invisible for the users and the autobuilders, which would not help its
orphan-ness. Therefore, instead, add a big fat warning in the config
menus that it has known issues.

package/libtool/libtool-0001-mips64-n64-linking.patch touches an m4
file, so applying it triggers a run of autoconf, automake, etc. This
sometimes leads to build failures due to incompatible system autotools.
This was observed on Fedora 10, which has automake 1.11 while the
generated files that are included in the tarball require automake
1.11.1.
We cannot simply set HOST_LIBTOOL_AUTORECONF = YES because that would
create a circular dependency on host-libtool. Therefore, the patch
patch is applied on the installed libtool.m4 instead of in the source
tree. Then, it also needs to be renamed to something that doesn't
match buildroot's patch convention so it doesn't get picked up
automatically.

The libblkid library in util-linux uses fork. While it seems
potentially possible to disable the parts of the library that use fork
(the only parts using fork are parts related to LVM and Device Mapper,
which are said to be legacy as they are replaced by sysfs based
scanning, instead of having to fork to run a separate process).
However, since libblkid is used by:
- e2fsprogs, which uses lots of fork all over the place
- udev, which most likely will also need fork
There is not much point in making libblkid fork-less. As a
consequence, this commit makes util-linux/libblkid unavailable on
non-MMU architectures, and propagates the relevant dependency to the
reverse dependencies of libblkid.
This fixes the e2fsprogs build failure seen on Blackfin. The failure
was due to a configure test of e2fsprogs which was trying to link a
small test program against libblkid, which failed because there was an
undefined reference to fork() in the libblkid code.

Patch cairo-001-blackfin-build-fix.patch was added in commit
d372d0b677 ('cairo: add patch to fix
Blackfin build failure') to take into account the fact that Blackfin
has a non-empty USER_LABEL_PREFIX: C symbol 'foo' corresponds to
assembly symbol '_foo', contrary to most other architectures where
they are the same.
However, the patch was only fixing the relevant macros in
src/cairo-compiler-private.h and did not take into account the
duplicated version of these macros in
util/cairo-script/cairo-script-private.h. This commit fixes that.
This commit is fixing a build failure on Blackfin, for which there was
no recorded autobuilder result because this problem was hidden by the
problem fixed by the previous commit ('cairo: fix build on Blackfin in
test/cairo-test-runner.c').

The ELDK now relies on Yocto, so it no longer has the funky
non-standard way of doing multilib. Also, we didn't mention that Yocto
toolchains/SDK are not suitable for usage with Buildroot. Therefore,
this commit rewords this part of the documentation to explain that
Yocto/OpenEmbedded SDKs cannot be used as external toolchains in
Buildroot, and why.

Now that we have eglibc and glibc support in the internal backend, and
no longer marked as experimental, a little bit of rewording is
needed. It is no longer necessary to indicate that uClibc was
historically supported as the only C library, and that the glibc
support is experimental. We also update the rest of the description to
be less uClibc specific.

There is no need to tell people that they should remove stamp files: they
should use the make <pkg>-reconfigure and make <pkg>-rebuild make targets
instead. We still keep an explanation about stamp files, just to give the
user an insight on how Buildroot works internally.

The conditional (suggested by me) introduced in 108952 (rt-tests: disable
for uclibc mips) isn't actually valid kconfig syntax, causing menuconfig to
error out.

For some architectures (eg. Arc, Cris, Hexagon, ia64, Parisc, Score and
Xtensa), the Linux buildsystem tries to call the cross-compiler when
installing the headers.
This is a spurious call, since a cross-compiler is not needed at all to
install the headers.
As some users have reported the issue, just add a comment in linux-headers.mk
directing the user to ignore those errors.

The AM_PATH_ALSA macro in utils/alsa.m4 unconditionally uses -ldl. This
breaks compilation of alsa-utils (and probably other packages using this
macro) for targets that do not support dynamic loading, such as for
Blackfin FLAT binaries.
This patch updates the macro to check if dlopen is available, and use that
result to conditionally add -ldl to the list of libraries.

In commit a9baea4345 ('pixman: add patch
to fix Microblaze build failure'), a patch is added to the pixman
package to avoid using the FE_DIVBYZERO definition when it is not
available. However, it was using the have_fe_divbyzero variable to
define or not HAVE_FEDIVBYZERO, while the AC_CHECK_DECL autoconf macro
sets the ac_cv_have_decl_FE_DIVBYZERO variable.
The end result was that the FE_DIVBYZERO macro was considered as never
being available. This commit fixes that by using the appropriate
variable.

Some packages (actually, just oprofile) need to link against libiberty.
This option just installs libiberty.a so it has no effect on the target,
therefore it's not needed to add a config option for it.
Before binutils-2.24, there was a bug in libiberty/Makefile.in that
caused libiberty to be installed regardless of the
--enable-install-libiberty option. This problem wasn't noticed before
because binutils-2.24 is not selected on any of the autobuilders: the
version can only be selected if an internal toolchain is used, and it
defaults to 2.21.

The Microblaze build of pixman was failing due to FE_DIVBYZERO not
being implemented. It turns out that the usage of it, like fenv.h and
feenableexcept() is optional. So the patch simply adds a configure
check and disables the appropriate code (which is only use in the
tests anyway).
This commit also renames the existing patch to follow the patch naming
convention, and get a reliable ordering when applying patches.

libcgi always builds both the shared and static library, which doesn't
work on architecture that don't support shared library at all, such as
Blackfin with the FLAT format. libcgi uses autoconf, but not automake,
and the Makefile is not of the highest possible quality, so this
commit fixes the problem by introducing a "STATIC" variable that can
be set from the environment. When set to a non-empty value, the
Makefile assumes it should only build the static version of the
library.
Note that this package is in desperate need of some care: there is one
single patch that mixes several changes together, it doesn't have a
description or a Signed-off-by line, and there is now a github project
for libcgi at https://github.com/rafaelsteil/libcgi/ that has the same
fixes.
However, for the purpose of the master branch, we're doing the most
minimal fix possible, by just adding this STATIC variable.

Disable when using a uclibc version before 0.9.33 since dn_comp
function support was added in this version. Also disabling on AVR32
since any AVR32 toolchain will be based on a uclibc version older
than 0.9.33 (for using an external AVR32 toolchain).

Using a relative path for O=... has limitations, since it is interpreted
relative to the Buildroot tree, and thus may lead to unexpected results.
For example, running this:
make -C buildroot O=my-O
will not create my-O in the current working directory, but as a
sub-directory of the Buildroot tree, here in buildroot/my-O
Explain this in the manual (as is similarly done for BR2_EXTERNAL).
Also add a note that $(O) will be created if missing.
Also change O=.. and -C .. to O=<...> and -C <...> to make it explicit
this is an ellipse, not a relative path.

Although it is possible to use relative paths, there are a few pitfalls
when doing so.
To avoid confusion for a (newcoming) user, use absolute paths in the
manual (as is done in examples for $(O)), since it is guaranteed to be
working without corner cases.

Using a relative path for BR2_EXTERNAL, and using an external defconfig,
such as in (from a Buildroot top-dir):
make O=.. BR2_EXTERNAL=.. foo_defconfig
is broken. It is unclear why the %_defconfig rule recurses in that case.
This patch internaly makes BR2_EXTERNAL canonical (ie. makes it an absolute
path), and checks the directory exists.

mpg123 needs MMU because the application that is built with this
package uses fork. Currently it is difficult to only build the
libraries for mpg123 so disabling the package all together when there
is no MMU support.
Note: mpg123 is an optional dependency of mpd but mpd already requires
BR2_USE_MMU so there is no need to add this as a dependency.

In commit 87492d244a ("aiccu: disable
for uClibc 0.9.31/0.9.32"), we made sure it was not possible to select
aiccu with uClibc 0.9.31 and 0.9.32, because they lack dn_skipname().
However, we still have the problem that external AVR32 toolchains can
select aiccu, which causes build failures. Therefore, we also disallow
aiccu on AVR32 altogether. We keep the 0.9.31/0.9.32 exclusions,
because if they are used on other architectures, it would also fail
due to the lack of dn_skipname().

Evas has an optional mechanism to do asynchronous preloading of
images. This mechanism is optional, and in commit
b6d92bf415 ("libevas: async image
preload support needs threads support in toolchain"), Peter made sure
to disable the asychronous preloading when no thread support was
available.
Unfortunately, it seems like disabling the asynchronous loading is
rarely used, and it in facts fails to build: a member of structure is
not present when asynchronous preloading is disabled, but the code
continues to use it.
Since the fix is not obvious, and all this mechanism seems to have
changed completely in EFL 1.8.x, and we probably don't care much about
EFL without threads, this commit adds a dependency of libevas on
thread support. Consequently, it also reverts commit
b6d92bf415 which is no longer necessary.
Of course, this commit propagates this additional dependency to the
reverse dependencies of libevas.

ramfs (which is used instead of tmpfs if CONFIG_SHMEM isn't enabled in the
kernel configuration), defaults to mode 0755 instead of 01777 like tmpfs
uses.
/tmp should be world writable and sticky, so explictly enforce the mode so
ramfs users gets it correct instead of relying on the defaults.

The tvheadend configure script fails to correctly handle spaces in any of
the options passed to it. If ccache is used the configure script fails to
handle the space in the --cc option and errors. Also the --cflags option
fails to handle multiple entries and only uses the first one. This patch
simple removes setting the --cc and --cflags options as the configure
script will correctly use the CC and CFLAGS variables already passed in
TARGET_CONFIGURE_OPTS.

coreutils was not building in the static link case with uClibc, due to
binaries being linked with librt (for timer functions), but not with
libpthread. However, librt uses functions from libpthread, so both
must be specified. This lack of linking against libpthread was caused
by a deficiency in one of the gnulib m4 macro, for which we add a patch.

pv configure script is somewhat stupid: if it cannot find the host
gettext tool msgfmt, it concludes that gettext is not available, and
provides its own minimal version. Unfortunately, this minimal version
conflicts with the available target gettext. We fix this by ensuring
that host-gettext is built if gettext support is enabled, by adding it
to the dependencies.

AArch64 does not implement the SYS_open system call, but only the
SYS_openat system call, as should be done for all modern architectures
merged into the Linux kernel. This causes problems when building
libv4l 0.8.9, which are fixed by integrating an upstream patch,
available in a more recent version of libv4l. Backporting the patch is
preferred over bumping libv4l, as libv4l has a fairly large number of
reverse dependencies, and we don't want to break anything that close
to the release.
Note that this commit also renames the existing libv4l-largefile.patch
to libv4l-01-largefile.patch in order to comply with the Buildroot
patch naming scheme, and guarantee the order in which patches are
applied.

icu does not recognize 'uclinux' as a supported platform. While making
it recognize uclinux is easy, there is another problem down the road:
icu does very weird things to generate an ELF library containing
static data (libicudata.a), and the generated library being ELF, it is
not compatible with the FLAT binary format expected by uclinux
platforms such as Blackfin in FLAT format.
Therefore, we simply disallow the selection of icu on FLAT
platforms.
Note that adding a dependency on BR2_BINFMT_ELF doesn't work, because
BR2_BINFMT_FDPIC is considered to be separate (even if technically
FDPIC is a derivative of ELF). That's why the dependency we're adding
is "depends on !BR2_BINFMT_FLAT" and not "depends on BR2_BINFMT_ELF".

Fixes a number of issues. From the changelog:
- Avoid getting stuck in a loop writing huge key files, reported by Bruno
Thomsen
- Avoid crash on exit due to cleaned up keys before last packets are sent,
debugged by Ronald Wahl
- Fix a race condition in rekeying where Dropbear would exit if it received a
still-in-flight packet after initiating rekeying. Reported by Oliver Metz.
This is a longstanding bug but is triggered more easily since 2013.57
- Ensure that generated RSA keys are always exactly the length
requested. Previously Dropbear always generated N+16 or N+15 bit keys.
Thanks to Unit 193
- Fix DROPBEAR_CLI_IMMEDIATE_AUTH mode which saves a network round trip if the
first public key succeeds. Still not enabled by default, needs more
compatibility testing with other implementations.
- Fix signal handlers so that errno is saved, thanks to Erik Ahlén for a patch
and Mark Wickham for independently spotting the same problem.
And at the same time get rid of the TIMEVAL_TO_TIMESPEC as dropbear provides a
fallback implementation if not available (and has done so since 2006).

The host python always had --disable-unicodedata, regardless of the
corresponding configuration option BR2_PACKAGE_PYTHON_UNICODEDATA.
Since the host python is used to byte-compile python modules, this meant
that such modules could not contain unicode strings. For example, following
statement in a python module:
print u"\N{SOLIDUS}"
would cause the byte-compilation to fail with message:
SyntaxError: ("(unicode error) \\N escapes not supported (can't load
unicodedata module)",
Instead, conditionally disable unicodedata based on
BR2_PACKAGE_PYTHON_UNICODEDATA, also for the host python.
This fixes bug #6542 (https://bugs.busybox.net/show_bug.cgi?id=6542)

Transmission would incorrectly determine the C++ compiler when ccache is
enabled, causing a build with uTP to fail at the configure step.
This patch adds a patch against transmission, fixing the problem.

If BR2_PACKAGE_QT_STATIC is set, qtuio will not build a .so file, but .a.
However, the custom INSTALL_TARGET_CMDS and INSTALL_STAGING_CMDS
unconditionally attempted to copy the .so file.
This commit checks the requested Qt library type and copies the right
library for each case, taking into account that the static .a file does not
need to be copied to the target directory.

If Lua support is requested in VLC, its configure script tries to find the
luac byte compiler, which fails if host-lua is not yet built.
This can be easily reproduced by setting a minimal config with vlc and Lua
enabled, and running: 'make clean toolchain vlc'. Final output is:

It does not make much sense enabling opencv without its core module.
This configuration leads to build nothing (since all modules depend on
the core one), but install the configuration files (*.pc and *.cmake)
anyway.
This absurd situation may break the build-system of other packages
that would correctly find the *.pc (but does not check for the modules
they actually use), but would not build because of missing headers and
libraries.

jimtcl tries to use 'ccache' (a non-buildroot host version) which may not
exist on the host system. If ccache is enabled in buildroot, the compiler
used by jimtcl is:
ccache <buildroot>/.../ccache <buildroot>/.../<tuple>-gcc
If ccache is not present on the host, this results in the build error:
ccache <buildroot>/.../ccache <buildroot>/.../<tuple>-gcc
-D_GNU_SOURCE -Wall -I. -fpic -pipe -Os -c -o jim-subcmd.o jim-subcmd.c
make[1]: ccache: Command not found
This patch passes 'CCACHE=none' to the 'configure' script, disabling the
internal handling of ccache, so that ccache can be transparently passed
through CC.

The three typical packages that use .config files in buildroot copy the
config file at different times in the build process:
busybox copies its .config from the post-extract hook.
linux copies its .config in the configure_cmds.
uclibc copies its .config from the post-patch hook.
Copying the .config file from the configure step is the only way to properly
support an OVERRIDE_SRCDIR that does not yet have the .config file, because
the extract and patch steps are skipped in that case.
In a previous patch, the situation was already fixed for busybox. This patch
applies the same fix to uclibc: copy the config file from the configure
step, as linux is doing.

Currently, the build of systemd is broken with the internal toolchain
backend, because we have uClibc patches that add support for
execvpe(), but we also have a patch for systemd that adds execvpe(),
which was added when the internal uClibc didn't support execvpe().
However, simply dropping the patch is not a solution, as it would
break the build of systemd with any other uClibc than the ones built
with Buildroot. For example, a Crosstool-NG uClibc toolchain would
fail.
Beyond this execvpe() problem, there are also other problems that
prevented systemd from being built with unpatched uClibc.
This patch does the following:
* Add sequence numbers of systemd patches.
* Regenerate them to avoid fuzz.
* Improve the uClibc compatibility patch so that it:
- Detects whether execvpe() is available or not, and if not
available provide an implementation.
- Detects if dup3() is available or not, and if not available
provide an implementation.
- Detects if MSG_CMSG_CLOEXEC is defined or not, and if not, define
it to the appropriate value.
This has been tested with uClibc internal toolchain, uClibc external
toolchain built with Buildroot, uClibc external toolchain built with
Crosstool-NG, and glibc external toolchain.

The xtensa port uses __xtensa_libgcc_window_spill in libgcc to implement
__builtin_frame_address. This symbol is local/hidden in libgcc. This is not a
problem when linking against static libgcc. But g++ defaults to
-shared-libgcc, thus breaking link against C++ shared libraries that are using
__builtin_frame_address as follows:
ld: test: hidden symbol `__xtensa_libgcc_window_spill' in .../libgcc.a(lib2funcs.o) is referenced by DSO
Add upstream patches that make libgcc_s.so a linker script that links in
unresolved symbols from the static libgcc, similar to the ARM and PowerPC
ports.

Context:
The autobuilders were failing on the symbol _XData32 being in conflicts.
A patch had been added to SDL to add a check to the configure.in
Problem:
Sometimes, the build would fail, because of an _XData32 symbol being in
conflicts eventhrough the patch was here.
What was happening:
Following the classic buildroot workflow:
- Extract
- [...]
- Apply 001 patch, which touches configure.in AND configure
- Apply 002 patch, which touches configure.in
- Invoke autogen.sh
- [...]
Right before running autogen.sh, we have configure.in which is more
recent than configure, which is fine.
We then, execute autogen.sh which, basically, runs autoconf.
If your machine was lighty loaded, the time difference between
configure.in and configure was really tiny (ms order), which seems to be
neglected by autoconf.
The results was that the configure was *NOT* generated. And our second
patch was not taken into account.
If your machine was under heavy load, the time difference between the
two files would have been greater and then *maybe* picked up by
autoconf. And then the configure file was re-generated.
When the 0001 patch was introduced, SDL package did *NOT* run it's
autogen.sh, which is why it touches also the configure.
This came later, causing this behavior.

The legacy support for the old BUILDROOT_DL_DIR and BUILDROOT_CONFIG
breaks down when make is invoked recursively - which is done in a few
cases, e.g. silentoldconfig, external-defs, ... These targets always
give a legacy error.
For BUILDROOT_DL_DIR, this is fixed by making sure that the original
value of BR2_DL_DIR taken from the environment is also exported again.
For BUILDROOT_CONFIG, this is fixed with an additional comparison of
the environment variable's value with the fake value that we introduce
ourselves.

Git repo version is taken from meta-ti.
It's a 3.12.10 kernel with TI's own patches on top.
The defconfig has been kept rather close to our old defconfig.
The kernel has been boot-tested using an NFS-root.
Apart from the kernel change, the linux headers has also been
updated from 3.8.12 to 3.12.10.

When mdev /dev management is chosen in the buildroot configuration, the
Linux configuration is updated automatically to set option
CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER_PATH to "/sbin/mdev". However, the help text of this
option explicitly recommends not setting this option due to large
performance impact during boot (experienced first hand by the reporter ánd
author).
The mdev startup script S10mdev already sets the helper during userspace
boot, which will make sure mdev is working correctly.

The Linux kernel headers versions 3.1, 3.3, and 3.5 have been deprecated
since 2013.02 and thus can be removed in 2014.02.
For legacy handling, we automatically select versions 3.2, 3.4, and 3.6,
respectively.
Additionally, this patch removes the now unused symbol
BR2_DEPRECATED_SINCE_2013_02.

By default, the UBI FS target creates a ubinize configuration
file on-the-fly, for a single volume. Add an option to specify
a custom config file.
E.g., one might want to deploy a system with a volume for the
built ubifs image, a volume for a future upgrade image, and a
volume for user data.

scan_patchdir is called recursively. For this to work properly, the
variable path which is set to $1 at the very beginning must be local not
global.
A test case is to set BR2_GLOBAL_PATCH_DIR to 'mypatches' and having the
following tree in the buildroot root:
$ find mypatches/
mypatches/
mypatches/busybox
mypatches/busybox/subdir.patch
mypatches/busybox/subdir.patch/busybox-0001-abc.patch

With toolchains that include linux kernel headers before the 3.4 kernel,
an issue exists with linux/mmc/ioctl.h in that it doesn't include
linux/types.h.
Merged the patch with an existing patch for mmc-utils as it modifies
the same file and fixes similar issues. Also updated the patch to
conform to the buildroot patch naming standard.

If the grub package is selected it also selects
BR2_HOSTARCH_NEEDS_IA32_COMPILER. This triggers a test in dependencies.sh
to verify the host compiler can build 32 bit executables. Currently this
test does not set any output for the compiler which causes a stray a.out
to be create outside the output directory. This patch sets the compiler
output to /dev/null so no a.out is created but the test is still performed.

The fourth parameter to inner-generic-package is no longer used. Removing

Variable FOO_DIR_PREFIX in inner-generic-package isn't really needed. The
contents of this variable are 'package' for normal packages, 'boot' for
bootloaders, and 'linux' for the linux kernel.
When patching a package, all you need to know is the directory where
patches can reside, which is already returned by $(pkgdir). In order to be
able to use this variable outside of inner-generic-package, we introduce a
target-specific variable PKGDIR that equals to this $(pkgdir).

function takes arguments. For pkgdir, pkgname and pkgparentdir this is not
the case, so we can remove the call to make things more readable.

The default of choosing the fixed-point implementation if
the target hardware does not have floating-point unit is not
always the best choice. Modern ARM hardware has floating
point support but most likely the fixed-point implementation
in Opus will still perform better. In particular if your CPU
supports the NEON extension.
This commit allows to select the fixed-point implementation
manually and sets the default based on the availability of
a floating-point unit.

The pread/pwrite handling on the 0.9.33 branch doesn't take into
consideration architectures with an ABI requiring natural alignment for
64bit arguments (afaik ARM EABI, MIPS O32, PPC, SH and Xtensa), causing
havoc.
The issue has been brought with the uClibc developers, but so far a fix is
not available - So lets revert the patches for now as they cause real
issues.

Our current stripping strategy requires that shared libraries have the
executable permission. However, this is by far not something
recognized as a standard behavior: Debian/Ubuntu distributions for
example do not have executable permissions on their
libraries. Therefore, pushing to upstream packages fixes that add the
executable permissions is not easy.
As a result, this commit improves the stripping logic so that it not
only strips the files that are executable, but also the ones that
match '*.so*', which should match both the shared libraries and the
dlopen()'able plugins, as long as they have a .so extension.
Thanks to this addition, a number of manual "chmod +x" done by various
packages can be removed.

If two files with the same relative paths exist in multiple overlay
skeletons, and they have the same modification time and size, then rsync
might not copy the later file on top of the earlier file. This patch fixes
this by adding the -I option to the rsync commands used in the overlay
skeleton file installations. ("man rsync" indicates that this option turns
off the file-size/mod-date "quick check" behavior, causing all files to be
updated - more like the cp commands that we had originally.)

Some compilers, such as the Blackfin GNU compiler, prefix a character to any
C symbol in generated assembly code. If any assembly symbol is invoked
from C code, it needs to be prefixed as well.
Note: since autoreconf doesn't work with this package because automake
isn't used.

The current git download helper creates the tarball by doing:
git archive <version> | gzip -c > <tarball>
Unfortunately, even if "git archive" fails and returns a non-zero
error code, gzip ignores that, compresses nothing, and returns success
(zero error code). The consequence of this behavior is that when the
git version provided in the package is incorrect, we are not failing
during the download step, but later on when trying to extract the
tarball (which was incorrectly created as a result of the failing git
archive).
To fix this, we change the tarball creation logic to:
git archive -o <tarball>.tmp <version> &&
gzip -c <tarball>.tmp > <tarball> &&
rm -f <tarball>.tmp
If the build is interrupted during the "gzip" command, we may leave
the .tmp file behind us, but this also happens with wget downloads,
and is generally not considered a problem, since this temporary file
will be overwritten next time we attempt to do download this package.

Probably due to some copy/paste mistake, Config.in.sh was defining
BR2_ENDIAN to "LITTLE" when the architecture is BR2_x86_64. Due to the
fact that Config.in.sh is never included when we are building for
x86_64, this is a no-op, but is certainly good to clean up.

udpcast was checking the (non-existing) BR_LARGEFILE variable to know if it
should enable stat64 or not, but the package itself depends on largefile
support and more importantly, configure doesn't look at this variable at
all, so we can just drop it.

Move the GPM_RUN_AUTOGEN to be a PRE_CONFIGURE step because this step
depends on the dependancies being built. If it is a POST_PATCH step
the dependencies won't be built and the GPM_RUN_AUTOGEN step will fail
(if the host doesn't have autotools).

the initial implementation assumes that when a version found in
buildroot is different from the one in the X11 release, it
requires an upgrade. even though this is most likely the case, it
could be a downgrade too, and it's probably worth highlighting
such cases when it (rarely) happens.
LooseVersion from distutils is doing the low level job of sorting
version numbers represented in strings...
[Thomas & Thomas:
- do not count packages more recent in Buildroot than in the latest
X.org release as to be downgraded. If we have more recent version,
it's generally for a good reason, so we want to keep them as
is. Such packages are counted as "nothing to do", but for
information, we indicate that there are "More recent"
- also remove the "nothing to do" action indicator. It used to be a
simple dash, which was not really useful.

The zxing package currently selects libiconv when locale support is not
available in the toolchain. This patch stops the zxing package selecting
libiconv. The zxing package now uses uses libiconv if it's available
otherwise iconv support is disabled in zxing.

Starting with 1.4.0, weston requires wayland-scanner to build its DT.
So far, we got away with just hand-building wayland-scanner, and made
that available in HOST_DIR/usr/bin
But now, weston also requires wayland's DTD, which we did not take care of
in our dirty little hack.
So, the best solution is to just build a host-variant of wayland, so
we get both wayland-scanner, and the DTD.
But then, we do not build the target wayland-scanner (he, wayland tries
to run it at build time...). So it is a matter of just tweaking a little
bit the host .pc file (which weston uses to find wayland-scanner, sigh...)
and fake it as a target .pc file.

infozip's Makefile expect $(AS) to output by default to <basename>.o
but when called from Buildroot, the value for $(AS) is set
to to invoke the toolchain's $(AS) directly, and the output of it
goes to a.out.
So, define $(AS) with $(CC -c)

gnutls-01-gettime.patch was applied upstream, AUTORECONF is no longer
necessary.
The GNUTLS_LIBREGEX_CHECK_FIX didn't actually work before, because it was
overwritten by the autoreconf. It looks like things still work without
regex. However, this patch reinstates the regex support by setting
libopts_cv_with_libregex=yes in the environment.

If the Buildroot tree is read-only, then $(TARGET_DIR_WARNING_FILE) is
copied read-only into target/ but we may want to remove it during the
build process.
This poses no real problem, since target/ itself is guaranteed to be
writable, but for good measure, force $(TARGET_DIR_WARNING_FILE) to be
writable itself.

If $(KERNEL_SOURCE_CONFIG) is read-only (eg. because Buildroot's source
dir is), the rm of $(KERNEL_ARCH_PATH)/configs/buildroot_defconfig will
either fail, or prompt the user, both of which we want to avoid.
Make it writable by using $(INSTALL).

If the source target skeleton is read-only (eg. because Buildroot's
source dir is), modifications to the output target (such as creating
/etc/hostname and /etc/issue) fail.
(This can happen if the Buildroot source dir is NFS-mounted read-only
to be shared between different machines, for example).

OTP R16B03-1 is a service release which corrects a few issues found in
the R16B03 release. The corrections are:
- The ODBC application was missing in the prebuilt Windows installers
- 3 corrections in the SSL application:
- Add missing validation of the server_name_indication option and test for
its explicit use.
- Elliptic curve selection in server mode now properly selects a curve
suggested by the client, if possible.
- The server did not indicate support for secure renegotiation during TLS
extension handling.
- In the syntax tools application a bug was introduced which broke
reverting of local funs. This is now corrected (thanks to Anthony
Ramine)
- wx - Solved a problem which caused the debugger to crash when closing a
window. Fixed static linking on Mac.
- xmerl - Fixed a problem in the SAX-parser when the header of the next
document was appearing in the buffer when using the
xmerl_sax_parser:stream/2 function.

We don't have libcddb in Buildroot, and the detection handling in
configure uses pkg-config, so explicitly disable it so we don't
need to build host-pkgconf just to notice that it isn't available.

rtmpdump CAN work without a crypto backend (by passing CRYPTO=), so
don't enforce gnutls.
Fixes a dependency issue as gnutls needs wchar, but rtmpdump
(and polarssl/openssl) don't.

GNU tar > 1.13.17 interprets TAR_OPTIONS as an environment variable
containing options to be prepended to the set on the command line.
Since we use the same variable, if the user's environment already
contains TAR_OPTIONS, our use of the same variable name modifies
the environment and causes untars to misbehave when TAR_OPTIONS
causes a -xf to be prepended to the tar command line, likely
converting a subsequent flag into a spurious filename.

Which confuses kconfig. Work around it by swapping gnutls and openssl in

When using a custom rootfs skeleton, the host-mkpasswd target is not
automatically built, even if some packages add users (i.e. when
PACKAGES_USERS is not empty).
In this case, the rootfs generation may fail because the mkpasswd
provided by some distribution does not support all options used in the
mkusers script.
This patch avoids such trouble by automatically adding the host-mkpasswd
package to the dependency list of the rootfs targets if users needs
to be created.

CMake offers a couple of places where one can specify how to build a
library:
- when you create the library target itself, by calling
add_library(target [SHARED|STATIC] ...)
- or globally, when you configure the build, by setting the
BUILD_SHARED_LIBS CMake flag.
* if the library target kind of library is specified:
it overrides the global setting BUILD_SHARED_LIBS;
* else, if the global setting BUILD_SHARED_LIBS is set:
it builds according to the BUILD_SHARED_LIBS flags;
* otherwise:
for linux, it will build static library (like BUILD_SHARED_LIBS
default is OFF).
So, we can consider the setting BUILD_SHARED_LIBS acts a bit similarly
to the autotools ones '--disable-static' and '--enable-shared'.
Thus, it makes sense for Buildroot to globally drive to CMake flags in
the cmake-package infrastructure.
It seems we never trigger this so far because:
- either we specified it in the *.mk file (e.g. opencv.mk);
- or it was already set per target by the projects' upstreams.
Followup patches will clean the remaining BUILD_SHARED_LIBS in the
package *.mk files.

'printf' was introduced because it is more portable than 'echo -e'. But
when the escape sequences are just newlines we can just as well use
plain 'echo' (and remove the newline escape sequences).
This looks cleaner than having some lines with echo and some with
printf.

Shrinks library size. From the release notes:
Nathan Froyd at Mozilla noticed something odd in the libvorbis
sourcebase. Codebook 'length lists' only use integers in the range
of 0 to 32. Well, worse than integers, actually, longs. And the
lengthlists are big; the static data comprises the bulk of
libvorbisenc.
In the earliest days of Vorbis development 15 years ago, codebooks
were constructed differently and the lengthlists were quite small.
Longs still weren't necessary, but the wasted space was
negligible. When the coding strategy shifted and these lists
became much larger, no one caught the wasted space. The vast
majority of optimization was always for speed, not space. The only
concentrated effort in trimming Vorbis library size down over the
past decade had been in the decoder.
But now browsers need to ship encoders, and size matters. Add that
to 64 bit taking over (and doubling the wasted space in the
lengthlists), someone finally noticed the oversight.
That's a long way of saying [1]"Xiph.Org is pleased to announce
the release of libvorbis 1.3.4..."
No functional changes, but the encoder lib is now a shade over 25%
the size it was in the 1.3.3 release.

The Config.in.legacy entry associated with the replacement of libnfc-llcp
was broken in multiple ways:
- it was not correctly added within the section for 2014.02 deprecation
(recently fixed by Yann E. Morin with commit
f169e5e105)
- it still had select/depend statements from the original symbol, which
should not be added in Config.in.legacy.
- it did not select the replacement symbol as to make the transition for
users more convenient.
- indentation of the help text was not tab+2spaces.

The buildroot manual contains a list of deprecated items, with their config
title text, and the location in the config menu. If the config text does not
mention a package name, this can be confusing.
For example, the symbol BR2_PACKAGE_FLEX_BINARY has as text:
'Install tool in the target', which outside of the flex context makes no
sense at all.
To make sure the deprecated packages list in the manual is understandable,
rename the (deprecated) flex 'target binary' config option.

support/dependencies/dependencies.sh uses #!/bin/sh shebang. It is not
guaranteed that /bin/sh provides an 'echo' implementation that
understands the '-e' flag (interpret backslash escape chars). For
example, dash doesn't.
'printf' is more portable (it must interpret backslash escape chars,
according to POSIX), so use that.
NOTE: Before the previous commit, the dependencies.sh script used
/bin/echo instead of the shell built-in. That's probably why this hasn't
come up before.

Buildroot fails to run on NixOS because it has no /bin/echo or
/bin/grep. Instead of relying on absolute paths, rely on tools to be
available in PATH. This should work for all systems.

The real cause of problem is missing posix_fadvise() implementation in uClibc
for xtensa. This has now been fixed with the uclibc version bump. The internal
e2fsprogs posix_fadvise() implementation is broken on 32bit systems anyway, and
upstream has removed it.

The compilation of the program weston-launcher is currently disabled, so
the only way to launch Weston (on framebuffer) is to execute (as root):
$ openvt -c 2 -s -- weston \
--backend=/usr/lib/weston/fbdev-backend.so \
--tty=2 \
--log=/tmp/weston.log
Unfortunately you will only end up with a black screen. The reason is
given in the log file:
/dev/tty2 is already in graphics mode, is another display server running?
Here is the fix from upcoming version 1.4.

Fix the google.protobuf check in an upstreamable way.
As suggested by Arnout, use an autoconf ac_cv_have_* variable
so we can pass it on the command line. This is generic behaviour
for a lot of autoconf internals, so it makes sense to do it this
way.

This patch introduces the luainterpreter virtual package, which
is provided either by 'lua' or by 'lua-jit'.
Packages that require a Lua interpreter can then depend on
BR2_PACKAGE_LUAINTERPRETER (in their Config.in) and luainterpreter
(in their .mk).

This patch only add the native cwiid library and a couple of tools.
The 2 first cwiid patches are retrieved from upstream and fix build
issues, so does the 3rd one.
The 4th patch allows to disable wmgui build, so allows to reduce to
number of dependencies.

This package has been renamed upstream to libllcp. Also, the current
package we have in Buildroot fails to compile due to a version bump of
it's main dependence, libnfc. A version bump is required because this
package has been adapted upstream to work with libnfc-1.7.0-rc6.

CA certificates used for SSL based applications. The package installs CA
certificates to /usr/share/ca-certificates and creates symbolic links under
/etc/ssl/certs. For example, the existing libcurl package will use these
certificates for https urls. Based on the debian ca-certifcates package.

Since default configure options for host packages include
--disable-static, gcc was not configured to build static version of its
libraries (libgcc.a, libstdc++.a, ...).
This patch replace --disable-static by --enable-static in configure
command. Notice some options was removed sinces they was ignored by gcc
configure script.
Once it was compiled, this commit takes care to copy static libraries to
$STAGING

openssl 1.0.1f Makefile.org doesn't quote $(CC) when passing the
parameter in another invocation of make, hence breaking when the
compiler string contains a space with multiple strings (for example with
ccache).

A custom skeleton may include /etc/issue and/or /etc/hostname, in
which case we do not want to override them.
But those files could also be missing from the custom skeleton, or
the user may want to override their content.
Update the documentation to make it clear that the user can set these to the
empty string to make buildroot not create/overwrite these files.

In order to keep better track of when a feature got deprecated, and hence
when it can be removed, a new set of symbols BR2_DEPRECATED_SINCE_xxxx_xx is
introduced. These symbols are automatically selected when BR2_DEPRECATED is
selected, and thus are transparent to the user.
A deprecated feature will no longer depend on BR2_DEPRECATED directly, but
rather on the appropriate BR2_DEPRECATED_SINCE_xxxx_xx. If that symbol does
not yet exist, it has to be created in Config.in.
When removing a deprecated feature, one should also check whether this was
the last feature using the BR2_DEPRECATED_SINCE_xxxx_xx symbol, in which
case the latter can be removed from Config.in.
A followup patch will make sure the overview is added to the list of
deprecated features in the manual, so that a buildroot core developer can
easily determine which features to remove in a given development cycle.

To test for the google.protobuf presence, ola's ./conifgure runs the
host Python. This is doomed to fail, as google.protobuf is installed
in target/ and not in host/
Since our dependencies ensures that google.protobuf is indeed installed
before we attempt to configure and build ola, we can just ditch the
test altogether.

In our wrapper, we forcibly add the -march=, -mcpu= and-mtune= flags
to the actual compiler, this in an attempt to always generate correct
and optimised code for the target.
But in some cases, the caller knows better than we do, and passes its
own set, or subset of those flags. In this case, some may conflict with
the ones we pass. The most prominent offender being the Linux kernel.
For example, on the ARM Raspberry Pi, the Linux kernel will set the
-march=armv6 flag and no -mcpu= flag, but we pass -mcpu=arm1176jzf-s,
which conflicts:
drivers/scsi/scsi_trace.c:1:0: warning: switch -mcpu=arm1176jzf-s
conflicts with -march=armv6 switch
(and so for all the files the kernel compiles, pretty messy)
(note: arm1176jzf-s is not an armv6, it is an armv6zk. Yeah...)
To avoid this situation, we scan our commandline for any occurence of
the possibly conflicting flags. If none is found, then we add our owns.
If any is found, then we don't add any of our owns.
The idea behind this is that we trust the caller to know better than
we do what it is doing. Since the biggest, and sole so far, offender
is the Linux kernel, then this is a rather safe bet.

If either dhclient or dhcpcd are selected, network-manager is now
configured with the proper paths.
This allows 'dhcp=dhclient' or 'dhcp=dhcpcd' to be set in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf.

cset 7a58a4e (e2fsprogs: bump to version 1.42.9) broke the generation
of ext4 filesystems.
This is because, in ext4, some metadata are dependent on the UUID.
If changing the UUID of an ext4 filesystem, tune2fs now exits with
exit-code 1, and prints a message to run fsck, to avoid trashing the
filesystem.
This condition is of utmost importance on a mounted filesysten (which
is not our case) to avoid corruption (yes, it is possible to change
the UUID of a mounted filesystem).
But the error is not valid for us, since we are working on an unmonted
filesystem image in the first place.
Since we change the UUID after we convert the filesystem (to ext4),
tune2fs just bails out.
We can not just ignore the exit code of tune2fs, since we still want
to catch any other failure.
It turns out that, changing the UUID before converting the filesystem
is just the way to go.

Currently, the manual uses the last modification date and time of
manual.txt in the generated manual.
This is confusing, especially for long-checked-out repositories where
the top-level manual.txt has not changed since the check out. Moreover,
the manual explicitly states 'generated on', which is confusing at best.
Use the current date and time instead.

Provides command line access to almost all the features defined in
the EWMH specification. It can be used, for example, to get
information about the window manager, to get a detailed list of
desktops and managed windows, to switch and resize desktops, to
make windows full-screen, always-above or sticky, and to activate,
close, move, resize, maximize and minimize them.

The default port 22 used by dropbear for its SSH connections is not always
desired. Dropbear accepts an option '-p' to set the port, but doing this was
not possible from the buildroot-provided init script.
One way to fix this is by adding a custom S50dropbear in a project-specific
rootfs overlay. However, this approach has the big disadvantage that bug
fixes or improvements in the default init script (i.e. in newer buildroot
releases) are not available (unless you manually port these changes each
time you upgrade buildroot).
Another solution is to modify the default init script from a
project-specific post-build script. However, this is fragile because you'd
have to sed some line but this line may change in later buildroot releases.
Yet another solution is to change the default port at build time, by
patching the options.h header file in the dropbear sources. This was
proposed with a patch [1] before, but not accepted.
This patch implements another solution, hinted from the discussion in [1]:
the default init script now sources a config file /etc/default/dropbear, in
which the user can set the variable DROPBEAR_ARGS. This is similar to the
S81named init script in the bind package. The config file would be added to
a project-specific rootfs overlay, a custom skeleton, or created from a
post-build script.
This approach has the advantage of being simple and non-intrusive, without
any code duplication or fragile script modifications.

The iozone code uses the pthread_setaffinity_np() function, but with
uClibc this function is only available when the NPTL thread
implementation is used. Some architectures, such as AVR32 and ARC do
not support the NPTL thread implementation, and therefore lack the
pthread_setaffinity_np() function.
This commit adds a patch that provides an empty implementation of
pthread_setaffinity_np() when we're using uClibc, but not with the
NPTL thread implementation. The reasoning is that there is a very high
chance that the few architectures that do not implement NPTL are
non-SMP architectures, and therefore setting the affinity is not very
useful.
In addition to this, this commit:
* Renames the existing patch to use a sequence number, in order to
guarantee a proper ordering when applying patches.
* Removes the Kconfig dependency on !uClibc 0.9.31, which was
introduced to prevent AVR32 from failing due to the
pthread_setaffinity_np(). This conditional is no longer necessary
due to the new patch, and the conditional was anyway not completely
working since it was not taking into account the case of external
toolchains.

The Xilinx Microblaze external toolchains that we had support for are
very old, and are causing a huge number of build issues. Thanks to
Spenser Gilliland, we now have support for Microblaze in the internal
toolchain backend, and the autobuilders have been using the internal
toolchain backend since then. Therefore, it's time to deprecate those
old and unusable external toolchains.

When one enables the generation of a cpio archive of the root
filesystem, the most likely usage is as an initramfs for the
kernel. This commit ensures that the kernel has initramfs support when
the rootfs cpio image format is chosen.
This will for example ensure that if the user selects the ISO9660
filesystem format (which uses a cpio initramfs), the kernel will have
proper support to load and use the initramfs.
It is worth mentionning that when BR2_TARGET_ROOTFS_INITRAMFS is
enabled, then BR2_TARGET_ROOTFS_CPIO is always enabled. That's why we
move the enabling of CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD from the initramfs case to
the cpio case.

Currently, the Xtensa architecture uses the "snapshot" version of
uClibc. This means that the build is not reproducible, since it will
pick whatever latest version of uClibc is available at the moment of
the build.
This commit replaces that by adding a special Xtensa version, which
points to a well-known Git commit. This is something we should
hopefully be able to remove once the uClibc people realize that doing
a 0.9.34 release would be useful.

When BR2_TARGET_GRUB_SPLASH is enabled, we were passing
--enable-graphics, but when it was disabled, we were not doing
anything. However, in Grub, graphics support is enabled by default,
and you have to pass --disable-graphics to disable it.
Fix this by passing --enable-graphics or --disable-graphics as
appropriate.

In 1cece2813b (grub: add option to
configure the list of supported filesystems), we introduced the
BR2_TARGET_GRUB_FS_SUPPORT option which allows to provide a
space-separated list of filesystems that Grub should support.
However, it turns out that this not very practical, because the
iso9660 filesystem logic in Buildroot should force the ISO9660 support
to be enabled in Grub, which is not easy to do with a string option.
Therefore, this patch changes this option from a string option to a
list of boolean option, one per filesystem supported.
A few useful details:
- Since Grub legacy is dead, the list of filesystem, and therefore
the number of options, will not grow.
- We have only added options for filesystems that are likely to be
used in an embedded Linux context. Filesystems such as VSTAfs,
Minix, UFS2 or FFS2 are not supported.
- There is no need to add some Config.in.legacy support for the
previous option, since it was added after Buildroot 2013.11, and
was therefore never part of an official Buildroot release.

The ISO9660-specific Grub menu.lst contains two entries: one entry to
chainload the bootloader available in the first hard drive, and
another entry to boot the Buildroot system.
However, it defaults to booting the first entry, i.e chainloading
what's on the first hard drive. For a Buildroot generated system, this
is quite odd: we're not even booting the system built by Buildroot.
So, switch the two entries, and put the Buildroot boot entry first.

PDF files can not be easily embedded in other documents (eg. ODT, or HTML).
Add support for generating PNG graphs, by setting the GRAPH_OUT=pdf|png on
the command line:

This script generates graphs of packages build time, from the timing
data generated by Buildroot in the $(O)/build-time.log file.
Example usage:
./support/scripts/graph-build-time \
--type=histogram --input=$(O)/build-time.log --output=foobar.pdf
Three graph types are available :
* histogram, which creates an histogram of the build time for each
package, decomposed by each step (extract, patch, configure,
etc.). The order in which the packages are shown is
configurable: by package name, by build order, or by duration
order. See the --order option.

Since some time, we have removed the support to build a toolchain for
the target, and therefore the support for several development tools on
the target.
This commit deprecates a few additional development tools: m4, bison,
flex and gob2. For flex, we retain the ability to build libfl, we only
deprecated the ability to build the flex binary itself.
The original motivation for this patch is that m4 is causing build
issues in some configurations, but there isn't really much incentive
to fix this package for the target, since it is not really useful for
embedded Linux systems.
Bison, Flex and Gob2 are deprecated because they are reverse
dependencies of m4.

Currently, the ARM Config.in logic specifies values for
--with-arch/-march and --with-tune/-mtune, but not for
--with-cpu/-mcpu. However, this causes problems on ARMv4, because
specifying --with-arch=armv4t isn't enough to make gcc generate ARMv4
code: one should also pass --with-cpu=<some ARMv4 CPU>.
Moreover, since Buildroot is generally designed to generate code
specifically for the configured target, it makes sense to give our own
--with-cpu/-mcpu value instead of relying on the default value used by
gcc, and only do small optimizations with -mtune.

aiccu uses the dn_skipname() function, which was only introduced in
uClibc 0.9.33. Therefore, we disable this package when uClibc 0.9.31
and 0.9.32. Most likely, only AVR32 users will be affected by this, so
we don't add a specific kconfig comment for that.

Currently, the license files for the many firmware files are installed
in the target, alongside the firmware files, and are not available to the
legal-info infrastructture.
This patch separates the license files from the firmware files, and makes
them available to the legal-info infrastructure, so they get installed
with all the other license files.
Since most firmware files are proprietary (at least those we currently
install), we just have a single license definition. When we later support
other firmwares that have an OSS license, those can add their own
licensing information on a case-by-case basis.

The fio program uses posix_madvise(). However, posix_madvise() is only
available in the Git tree of uClibc, and in Buildroot's version of
uClibc 0.9.33, thanks to the huge number of backported patches that we
carry.
Therefore, trying to build fio with an external uClibc toolchain is
most likely going to fail (as the uClibc version is most likely an
official stable release, and no stable release of uClibc ever had the
support for posix_madvise()). And similarly, building fio with uClibc
0.9.31 and 0.9.32 is always going to fail. We disable those use cases
to avoid repeated autobuilder failures.
No kconfig comment has been added, because we don't have a
well-defined way of specifying such exceptions.

It seems weird that the libegl package has to know all of the packages
that may provide the EGL implementation.
This also breaks implementation provided by packages in BR2_EXTERNAL,
since we can't easily depend on the order of packages before we can
derive the dependencies of libegl.
So, Arnout and I separately came up to the same conclusion: move the
dependency selection from out of libegl, and into each of the packages
that provides an EGL implementation. Here it is.
Since we no longer depend on the order packages are included, but on
values set at Kconfig-time, we can now have EGL providers in BR2_EXTERNAL.

There are places in Qt's source where headers included with the name of
the module subdirectory (e.g. #include <QtCore/QHash>). Therefore, the
build system passes the top header directory to the compiler; but this
results in a error when building host tools since sysroot/usr/include
directory includes architecture specific system headers.
In order to prevent this, install all Qt headers into a subdirectory in
/usr/include.

In the Config.in file of package foo, it often happens that there are other
symbols besides BR2_PACKAGE_FOO. Typically, these symbols only make sense
when foo itself is enabled. There are two ways to express this: with
depends on BR2_PACKAGE_FOO
in each extra symbol, or with
if BR2_PACKAGE_FOO
...
endif
around the entire set of extra symbols.
The if/endif approach avoids the repetition of 'depends on' statements on
multiple symbols, so this is clearly preferred. But even when there is only
one extra symbol, if/endif is a more logical choice:
- it is future-proof for when extra symbols are added
- it allows to have just one strategy instead of two (less confusion)
This patch modifies the Config.in files accordingly.

The pycrypto package contains a LICENSE.orig file, but apply-patches.sh
removes all .orig file, so we can't list a .orig file asa license file,
as it would have disapeared by the time 'make legal-info' sould be called.
Add a post-extract hook that renames this license file, so it is renamed
just before we apply patches and remove .orig files.

Add a check for BR2_PACKAGE_ELFUTILS; if this is enabled, then try to link
against libelf from the elfutils package. This allows ktap to resolve
symbols in userspace.
The new FFI functionality in ktap is not exposed, as it currently only
supports x86_64...

qt5webkit is not currently supported on MIPS64 platforms, so disable the
possibility of selecting this package in that platform.
In the future the following changes would be needed to fix this problem:
A new Source/JavaScriptCore/assembler/MacroAssemblerMIPS64.h file needs
to be created in order to add support for MIPS64 and MacroAssembler.h
needs to be modified to include that file in case of CPU(MIPS64).
Also Source/WTF/wtf/Platform.h and Source/WTF/wtf/dtoa/utils.h need to
be modified to add MIPS64 support.

* "git diff -- ':(icase)makefile'" was unnecessarily rejected at the
command line parser.
* "git cat-file --batch-check=ok" did not check the existence of
the named object.
* "git am --abort" sometimes complained about not being able to write
a tree with an 0{40} object in it.
* Two processes creating loose objects at the same time could have
failed unnecessarily when the name of their new objects started
with the same byte value, due to a race condition.

Using ld may cause a link failure due to using the default emulation
linker which is configured when building the linker in binutils. Using
gcc instead will pass the appropriate -m value because the compiler
knows the ABI you are using.
Here is an example of the failure:

The source-check / external-deps make targets ends up calling recursively
into buildroot's Makefile, causing make to display a warning:
make[2]: warning: -jN forced in submake: disabling jobserver mode.
We don't support toplevel parallel make, so get rid of the warning using
MAKE1 instead.

There is no perf_events support in the kernel for avr32. The oprofile
package makefile hard codes the list of binaries to install. Unfortunately,
this hard-coded list contains pe_profiling/operf, which is only built when
perf_events support is available.

Make the python packing a bit easier to use by providing a detailed error
message if <pkg>_SETUP_TYPE isn't set to a valid value.
At the same time adjust the error message used when <pkg>_SETUP_TIME isn't
set to list the exact variable name that should be set, and don't talk about
'Unknown' as it isn't printed when the variable isn't set (or is set to the
empty string).

Remove the select of BR2_PACKAGE_PYTHON_SETUPTOOLS, since what is
really needed is host-setuptools (as can be seen from the original .mk
file), and not setuptools for the target.
Also, remove the mangling of the Python shebang, since it's now done
by passing the --executable= option at install time (done in the
Python package infrastructure).
Finally, convert the package to use <pkg>_INSTALL_INIT_SYSV.

Erlang builds two emulators depending on whether SMP is supported or
not. If it is known that the target does not support SMP, turning off
the SMP emulator saves compile time and reduces the size of the
installation.

Useful for for-build scripts to call parted, eg. to generate
partition tables and such automatically.
Since the primary goal is to use parted within scripts, we
do not need readline, so it is forcibly disabled.
Also, it does look unlikely that we need to manipulate LVM
volumes, so we forcibly disable support for the device-mapper.

parted can be configured without support for LVM volumes, so
we can relax the dependency on lvm2, and make it an optional
feature.
Remove now no-longer needed dependency on MMU because of lvm2.

AC_TRY_LINK should be used instead of AC_TRY_COMPILE because the code
will compile everywhere, either producing ``atomic'' code, or an

For some reason, the dialog package has a DIALOG_POST_CLEAN variable,
which doesn't match any of the variables understood by the
infrastructure. This commit gets rid of it.
This was noticed while reviewing the packaging of python-dialog.

To make it clear to the user that these options are external to Buildroot
and no support is provided by the Buildroot community.
With this, there's no need to recommend people to their options inside
a menu, so remove that from the documentation.
Kconfig nicely allows us to hide the menu completely if BR2_EXTERNAL isn't
used, so make use of that to not confuse people. It would be nice if we
could add some help text to explain the BR2_EXTERNAL stuff as well, but
that isn't supported on menus :/

This commit allows the BR2_EXTERNAL directory to contain Config.in and
Makefile code, which gets integrated into the Buildroot build logic:
- Buildroot automatically includes the $BR2_EXTERNAL/Config.in in the
top-level configuration menu.
- Buildroot automatically includes the BR2_EXTERNAL/external.mk in
the build logic, so it can for example be used to include other .mk
files that define package recipes.
This is typically intended to be used to create target packages in the
BR2_EXTERNAL directory, but can also be used for bootloaders, host
packages, or other custom make logic.
We also add a dummy Config.in file in support/dummy-external/ to
ensure that the source "$BR2_EXTERNAL/Config.in" line will point to an
existing file even when BR2_EXTERNAL is not used by the user.

This commit introduces the BR2_EXTERNAL environment variable, which
will allow to keep Buildroot customization (board-specific
configuration files or root filesystem overlays, package Config.in and
makefiles, as well as defconfigs) outside of the Buildroot tree.
This commit only introduces the variable itself, and ensures that it
is available within Config.in options. This allows us to use
$BR2_EXTERNAL in a 'source' statement in Config.in.
Following patches extend the usage of BR2_EXTERNAL to other areas
(packages and defconfigs).
In details, this commit:
* Introduces the BR2_EXTERNAL Kconfig option. This option has no
prompt, and is therefore not visible to the user and also not
stored in the .config file. It is automatically set to the value of
the BR2_EXTERNAL environment variable. The only purpose of this
BR2_EXTERNAL Kconfig option is to allow $BR2_EXTERNAL to be
properly expanded when used inside Kconfig source statements.
* Calculates the BR2_EXTERNAL value to use. If passed on the command
line, then this value is taken in priority, and saved to a
.br-external hidden file in the output directory. If not passed on
the command line, then we read the .br-external file from the
output directory. This allows the user to not pass the BR2_EXTERNAL
value at each make invocation. If no BR2_EXTERNAL value is passed,
we define it to support/dummy-external, so that the kconfig code
finds an existing $(BR2_EXTERNAL)/package/Config.in file to
include.
* Passes the BR2_EXTERNAL into the *config environment, so that its
value is found when parsing/evaluating Config.in files and .config
values.

This patch fixes an issue that occurs during the manual build process
which will occur when BR2_EXTERNAL is introduced.
During the package list generation, the python script using kconfiglib
module reads and parses the Config.in files. So, symbols, including
environment variables, got expanded and/or resolved. In
kconfiglib.py, this patch fixes the regex that did not allow to use
numbers in the environment variable names, so '$BR2_EXTERNAL' got
wrongly expanded like it was '${BR}2_EXTERNAL':

When the binutils source code is pulled from a Git repository, a
number of generated files are not present, and need to be
re-generated. Those files are generated by flex, bison, and texinfo,
so we need to pull the corresponding dependencies.
Notice that we tried avoiding the texinfo dependency by doing a number
of MAKEINFO tricks, but none of them worked properly, so we've instead
chosen to depend on host-texinfo.

This commit allows to build an internal toolchain for the Microblaze
architecture, with either glibc or eglibc.
Note that we add an explicit list of architectures that are supported
by uClibc, and Microblaze is not part of them, because it currently
doesn't build for this architecture.

The patch "pandaboard: Fix defconfig build" locked the
default pandaboard kernel to 3.8.11. This is inconvenient,
since the boot process has changed since kernel > 3.8.
Update the default kernel to 3.12.2 and fix the boot image
configuration, but remain compatible with legacy U-Boot
versions by using appended flattened device tree uImage.
This change *should* keep future kernels compatible with a
fixed U-Boot version.
Note the default device tree is now for the pandaboard-ES,
so users of other board revisions will need to set the
correct DTS_NAME.

Python saves a pre-compiled support/scripts/kconfiglib.pyc file
side-to-side with the corresponding .py file.
This does not work if the Buildroot source tree is read-only (but
this is not an error for Python, which keep going OK).
But this may cause issues for out-of-tree builds in case the same
Buildroot source tree is shared by many builds.
Also, 'make clean' currently does not clean this file, and out-of-tree
builds can remove it either, at the risk of causing issues for other
out-of-tree builds running at the same time.
Just tell Python not to generate .pyc files:
- call the script via python, don't use the sha-bang
- thus, make the script non-executable, and remove the sha-bang

Currently, openssl defines three conditional hooks, but two do not
follow our coding rules:
- for PRE_CONFIGURE, the hook is defined in the if-block, but
the _HOOK variable is always set
- for POST_INSTALL_TARGET, the hook is always defined, but the
_HOOK variable is set in the if-block
Fix that:
- define the hook in the if-block
- assign the _HOOK variable in the if-block
At the same time, get rid of extra empty lines that make it more
difficult to read.

LFTP is a sophisticated ftp/http client, and a file transfer program
supporting a number of network protocols. Like BASH, it has job
control and uses the readline library for input. It has bookmarks,
a built-in mirror command, and can transfer several files in parallel.
It was designed with reliability in mind.

As reported by Matthew Weber, Grub doesn't build on 64 bits build
machines, because the host compiler produces 64 bits binaries by
default, while Grub should be built 32 bits. Therefore, this commit
passes -m32 to the Grub CFLAGS, so that 32 bits binaries are always
produced.

Note that the propagation of the thread dependency to the oprofile
package is a little bit non standard, because oprofile selects libpfm4
only on the PowerPC architecture. So we ensure the thread dependency
is only enforced on PowerPC, and a separate comment is displayed when
thread support is not available, but the PowerPC architecture is used.

Install syslogd/klogd to /sbin instead of /usr/sbin to really win over

Grub can be configured to enable or disable the filesystems supported
in the stage 2. In addition, there are filesystem specific stage
1.5. In order to save space and build time, we provide a new option
that allows to give a space-separated list of filesystems that Grub
should support.
We default to support FAT and ext2, since most of the other
filesystems are fairly unlikely to be used.
We use this option to:
1) Pass --enable-<fs> or --disable-<fs>, which enables/disables the
support of <fs> in Grub stage 2.
2) Install only the stage 1.5 that correspond to the selected
filesystems.

Two improvements to the menu.lst file:
* Do not enforce any video mode, let the kernel use whatever it wants
as the default, or let the user customize it when needed.
* Use /dev/sda1 instead of /dev/hda1. Nowadays, most hard disk
controllers are handled using libata, and therefore the disks are
visible as /dev/sd<X>.

This commit brings a number of improvements to the grub packaging:
* It builds grub with the host compiler, which is needed so that we
can build a 32 bits grub even if the target architecture is
x86-64. To make sure we have a host compiler capable of generating
32 bits code, grub now selects the BR2_HOSTARCH_NEEDS_IA32_COMPILER
option. Building with the host compiler is done by cheating and
passing $(HOST_CONFIGURE_OPTS) in GRUB_CONF_ENV.
* Some additional CFLAGS are added to make sure grub builds properly
with modern compilers (-O0, --build-id=none, -fno-stack-protector).
* Removal of the GRUB_INSTALL_STAGING_CMDS which were not used, since
GRUB_INSTALL_STAGING was not set to YES.
* Installation of the "grub" binary in $(HOST_DIR) instead of
$(TARGET_DIR) since it's actually used only on the host to install
grub into an image or device.
* Removal of the grub uninstall commands, since they are generally
considered useless.

This commit adds the OBJCOPY and RANLIB variables to
HOST_CONFIGURE_OPTS, since grub legacy will need these defined in
order to build properly.

Some bootloaders (such as Grub) need to be built for x86 (i.e IA32)
even if the target architecture is x86-64. However, when the target
architecture is x86-64, the cross-compiler generated by Buildroot is
not able to generate 32 bits code.
To solve this, we will rely on the host compiler being a x86 + x86-64
compiler. Therefore, this commit introduces the
BR2_HOSTARCH_NEEDS_IA32_COMPILER option, which tells the dependency
checking logic to verify that the host compiler is indeed capable of
building x86 32 bits code.

dbus-python requires xml.parsers.expat, which is provided by the pyexpat
module. This patch enables the pyexpat module as a dependency when dbus-python
is selected.

This libtool change ensures that ld uses the right machine emulation file,
which will allow to fix several MIPS64 n64 link failures, such as the one
currently visible on the libiscsi package. Packages affected by this
problem will have to use <pkg>_AUTORECONF = YES to benefit from this libtool
fix, until they are fixed upstream.

qt5base fails to compile on MIPS64 BigEndian n64 platforms because there
are multiple calls to some functions that are disabled. Since every Qt5
package depends on qt5base we can disable Qt5 entirely. This is a quick
fix for the next release. In the meantime, a proposed patch to fix this
problem has already been sent to Qt:

Simplify our custom qmake.conf:
- Include linux_device_{pre,post}.conf to inherit common device
configuration.
- Do not add $(STAGING_DIR)/usr/include to include path. It is
redundant.
In additon to the simplification of code, this change is a preparation
to solve problems occurring when QMAKE_CXX is prepended with ccache path.
Upstream patch is needed by configure to parse device options correctly.
Another upstream patch is needed to remove ARM specific parts from
linux_device_post.conf.

BINDIR is used to point systemd/dbus service files to the correct binary
path where wpa_supplicant resides.
So define it to avoid the default /usr/local path that doesn't work.

BR2_PACKAGE_LVM2_DMSETUP_ONLY is a "negative" option that disables
build and install of part of the suite. This option cannot be unselected
by other config options, which gives a problem for BR2_PACKAGE_UDISKS_LVM2:
it needs BR2_PACKAGE_LVM2_APP_LIBRARY, which requires the full suite.
Therefore, replace the negative BR2_PACKAGE_LVM2_DMSETUP_ONLY by a positive
BR2_PACKAGE_LVM2_STANDARD_INSTALL. To make sure that existing defconfigs
keep working, the new option defaults to y unless the legacy
BR2_PACKAGE_LVM2_DMSETUP_ONLY was selected.

The profiling support is not available on AArch64, causing build
failures such as:

According to Will Newton, function profiling will only be added in the
next version of the AArch64 Linaro toolchain. This indicates it is a
rather new feature in AArch64, so for the moment, just disallow
profiling on AArch64. We can revise this later, when this feature has
been made available in Linaro toolchains, and official gcc releases
(for internal toolchain support).

apr-util doesn't use fork or apr_proc_fork but it's of no use alone.

pkg-autotools.mk already handles static/shared linking, so no need to
explictly force it. Worse even, the build fails with BR2_PREFER_STATIC_LINK
as we end up calling libtool with --static when it tries to link the .so,
breaking the build:

Fix a rare edge build failure when iconv is enabled, easily reproduced
in a debian chroot with an aarch64 external toolchain with iconv +
xmlrpc support enabled with a php cgi + cli target.
Should solve bug #6500.

If glib2 is compiled with the system PCRE instead of the included
copy, then that system PCRE needs to have support for UTF-8 and
Unicode properties enabled. Otherwise you will get such warnings
at run-time:

beecrypt does not properly handle its dependency on openpm, so that
applications using libbeecrypt are not aware that they also need openmp
(libgomp). This causes error messages during linking, such as (rpm):
..-gcc [..] -lbeecrypt -lbz2 -lz -lpopt -lpthread
libbecrypt.so: undefined reference to `GOMP_sections_end_nowait'
libbecrypt.so: undefined reference to `GOMP_parallel_end'
libbecrypt.so: undefined reference to `GOMP_sections_next'
libbecrypt.so: undefined reference to `GOMP_parallel_sections_start'
Because the openpm dependency of beecrypt is only used by rsa.c, to
parallelize the calculation of RSA cyphers, we can simply disable openmp in
beecrypt instead of trying to fix the way -lgomp is passed.

This package is only supported on MIPS32 platforms. The mips-32.S file
included in the source code of this package only makes sense to be compiled
for MIPS32, and also contains hardcoded MIPS32 instructions which are
illegal on MIPS64. Trying to compile this package on a MIPS64 platform will
end with a linkage failure due to undefined references.

The -Wno-unused-result option is not understood by the version of gcc used by the
avr32 toolchain. Remove the option from the compilation flags.

Rename patches for uClibc version 0.9.31, for consistency with the general
patch naming scheme in Buildroot. Also remove a .avr32 extension from a patch;
this is not necessary, since uclibc 0.9.31 is unavailable on architectures
other than avr32.

As far as I can tell enabling tcl support has no affect on the actual
library. Furthermore, wvstreams has been checking for/linking against
tcl 8.3 which has never been supported in buildroot as far as I can tell
(8.4 added in 2005). That being said there is clearly no reason to keep
this around.

When using ccache TARGET_CC is something like
ccache gcc
This causes problems in the pv build which attempts to
override LD because the command ends up being
make [...] LD=/tools/ccache /tools/gcc LDFLAGS="[...]
As a result, during the build phase it attempts to build
/tools/gcc which succeeds by doing nothing:
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `/tools/gcc'.
and during the install phase you get the real build which
errors out on the LD error this snippet was attempting to
fix:

As reported by Cassiano Martin in bug #6692 if host == target the nano
package can pick up the host libmagic and break.
So add a check to see if the file package is enabled and use it,
otherwise just disable libmagic support.

Patches 02-cpp-comments-to-c-comments.patch changes C++-style comments
into C-style comments.
This is unneeded, since gcc accepts C++-style comments in C code anyway.
Ditch that patch, that's one less we have to handle when updating from
upstream.

In case a menu has comment without letters/numbers (eg. characters
matching the regexp '^[^[:alpha:][:digit:]]+$', for example - or *),
hitting space will cycle through those comments, rather than
selecting/deselecting the currently-highlighted option.
This is the behaviour of hitting any letter/digit: jump to the next
option which prompt starts with that letter. The only letters that
do not behave as such are 'y' 'm' and 'n'. Prompts that start with
one of those three letters are instead matched on the first letter
that is not 'y', 'm' or 'n'.
Fix that by treating 'space' as we treat y/m/n, ie. as an action key,
not as shortcut to jump to prompt.

As pointed by Thomas P. kernel 3.12 oopses when loading/using the
emulated network.
Seems 3.12 broke versatile for qemu like in the past, only in a more
subtle way this time that escaped my automated qemu builds/tests.

Allow user to supply their own step-hooks by passing a variable
on the make command-line:
make BR2_INSTRUMENTATION_SCRIPTS=/path/to/my/script
This can be useful to run site-specific actions at each step of the
build process, such as logging installed, removed or modified files,
do sanity checks on installed files...
It is possible to call more than one script, by passing a space-separated
lists of scripts to call.

This hooks will let us instrument the build process in many ways:
- log current step to see what broke
- time each step to see what is worth optimising
- sanity-check installed files (rpath, overwritten files...)
- call user-provided script
- ...
The steps are coarse-grain, and all have a 'start' and a 'end' hooks.
Here is the list of available steps (8 total):
- extract
- patch
- configure
- build
- install-host
- install-staging
- install-image
- install-target
The download, clean and uninstall steps are not instrumented on purpose.
